  2. So Shay McElroy's appears to be next up with the seating on Main Street. They are going more permanent than Little Dipper and have a full raised 2X4 deck built so far. Also, the long-abandoned 309 Travis spot (between Warren's and the new CRU lounge) has been fully gutted and they are starting up something inside. No clue what yet.

  5. I was over at Olshan's compound off Commerce picking some stuff up and the lady there told me they had sold the property to someone, but wasn't sure to whom. Let's begin the wild speculation of who bought it! I'll go first with a wish (HEB), and a real guess (Lovett). My understanding is this is roughly the area of the Olshan property.

  6. A New Pizzeria That Slings Pies Until 4 A.M. Will Open in Midtown Houston Dallas export Zalat is expected to make its debut this summer by Amy McCarthy Apr 19, 2021, 9:36am CDT Zalat, a rapidly growing, Dallas-born pizza chain known for its creatively topped pies, will soon arrive in Houston. The restaurant is set to open its doors at 510 Gray Street later this year, marking the chain’s first expansion out of DFW. “Houston was the most obvious choice for us,” founder Khanh Nguyen said in a statement. “We think many Houstonians love and appreciate great food that is served without pretense, and that’s exactly who we are.” Nguyen also has ties to Houston — he attended Klein Forest High School and the University of Houston before heading north to Dallas. As far as the pies are concerned, expect chewy, thin-crust pizzas topped with everything from classic pepperoni to elote-style corn, Nashville hot chicken, and pickles. There’s also a pho-inspired pie appropriately called the “Pho Shizzle.” Folks who dig dipping their pizza into ranch dressing should be especially excited — the restaurant’s “Srirancha,” a mix of sriracha and ranch, is a favorite among Zalat fans. Since it opened in 2015, Zalat has expanded from a stoner-friendly pizzeria to a major player in Dallas’s pizza scene, where it currently operates more than 10 locations. Whether or not it will have the same staying power as Cane Rosso, the Dallas-based pizzeria that opened in the Heights in 2016, remains to be seen. No official opening timeline has been announced just yet for Zalat’s debut in Houston, but expect it to arrive sometime this summer. Stay tuned for an opening date.

  7. There was a meeting today detailing how they plan to resurface, road diet, add parallel parking, add community relevant features, and improve drainage to Emancipation Ave. I took a few snips from the meeting.

  8. Hmm I only see like 4 or 5 but they couldn't pick a better market to sell and I just feel sorry for any of the buyers that are buying in this market and have to live with another two years of construction noise after buying their home for likely all time high...

  9. The number of townhomes for sale in that grouping to the bottom left of cityliving's excellent photos continue to go up. There must be 7 or 8 for sale right now. Also, that picture POV is wild! So weird seeing my neighborhood from that direction.

  10. I have walked by a few times and seen workers going in and out as well as heard saws and drills. DIdn't sound like major work but something is happening for sure.

  11. Correct on both accounts. And with the Caroline Lofts project scheduled for construction soon, this area will be quite the handful.

  12. Swiney is the area to the West and North of the KBR site. You can see Swiney Park on Meadow, South of I-10. The BFH to KBRN sale was for a piece of land 66x196 at the end of Bayou Street. KBRN is the owner of the big site, but Midway is one of the members of the KBRN LP, so has an indirect ownership.

  13. As long as they don't take the Japanese BBQ Gyu-Kaku or BBW spots I'm good. Now that I have both doses of the covid vaccine, Gyu-Kaku is one of the first places I used to frequent that I want to go back to.

  24. Here's a super wide panorama of the site, showing most of it. The center of the photo is roughly facing east with S Braeswood Blvd. on the far left, and the hideous Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences building to the far right. It seems like there has been no effort made for site-prep for the hotel location, which I'm guessing is at the north-east corner of the project.

  25. Would be nice if the feds kicked in to extend the line all the way to downtown...or Galveston.

  26. Seems to me they may be taking a bit too much of the sidewalk. It's not a conventional construction barricade, but a rather haphazard attempt.

  27. I can't wait to see how this building will interact with the downtown skyline behind it. I realize that this building is about half a mile away from the west side of downtown, but it is still close enough that at some angles it might work to expand the downtown skyline somewhat. I would love to see that last photo at a wider view. Where was it taken from? Thank you for posting.
