  1. This is going to get so much foot traffic because people are going to come just to drink coffee on the roof. It will def become a social media worthy place to take pics.

  2. A number of projects that were originally going to start a year ago have been pushed to this year. TMC3, this building, and one might expect East River would have started last year if market conditions were better. Also the Madison Marquette building on Jensen seems to have been a casualty of the pandemic. Then you have some downtown hotel projects in limbo, like the Moxy and the W. Nonetheless, I will admit that the market is weathering this better than I expected.

  4. I’d say there has most certainly been a slowdown. It’s not like the city was experiencing a boom prior to the pandemic. Perhaps it’s just from my experience within my own office, which has seen layoffs and countless projects either canceled or postponed. There were a number of foreign backed preliminary developments that just vanished. Future work getting pulled out from under you is doom for an architectural office. Maybe you’ve been busy? I have not. I know that is the case for a large number of design firms. Seeing these bigger projects that were paused for almost a year come back online gives me confidence -and hope- that we will continue to see new development.

  6. Permit submitted for 2130 SQFT Restaurant Buildout. Bank is Bldg 1, Ste 100. Acadian Coast is Bldg 2, Ste 200. Assuming this permit is for Roostar given the STE 190 numbering.

  7. I took these photographs from neither, I don’t own a drone and I don’t feel safe in a helicopter. I took these photographs from the top of a building that I was given permission to go up to.

  8. Two pieces of land being replat as "unrestricted reserve" right next to this location. Owned by Tilly Investments. Called "Milby Development" and "Walker Development", respective to their location. The Kaldis area is in black, new development plans are highlighted in yellow: Such a great location but I could see this eventually turning into townhomes. Can't find anything on the web for commercial development.

  9. Has there really been that much of a slow-down? It seems like we've had projects starting up pretty regularly all through the pandemic.

  10. I thought it was customary in "groundbreakings" to have several well dressed people holding shovels who look as if they haven't actually used a shovel for work in years ( if not decades). When did that happen?

  21. Looks like another restaurant coming to Rice Village nate, does the general public have the ability to view the further details on the permits like you have attached? I can't for the life of me figure out how to view this from the weekly reports.

  23. I went to Half Price this weekend...they are almost cleared out of all merch except lots of vinyl and dvds. the guy at the door (my buddy bucky was off) said that they have not been able to find a new location but are hopeful to find one this year... he said that they just have in their mind what they want to pay and are able to afford and haven't found that as of yet...

  27. NYC in summer is gross. Hot garbage piled as high as they can, subway funk that will take your breath away, and no place has proper AC.

  28. Not that facts matter, but Houston doesn't actually hit 100 degrees that often and it safe to say it has NEVER been 100 degrees at midnight and it has certainly NEVER been 100 degrees with 100% humidity. That does not happen. Nor do we have 90 degrees with 90 % humidity as is often (falsely) claimed. And anyone who thinks 70 degrees is a hot day in NYC has apparently not spent much time in the summer in NYC. It can be every bit as miserably hot and uncomfortable as Houston (worse actually, because there is little escape from it... they don't do A/C nearly as well as we do.)

  32. Look at that beautiful ETFE! Before the questions come in: What does ETFE stand for: Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene Whats the big deal: Arch Daily ETFE This might be the biggest install of ETFE here in town. We have PTFE on The Woodlands Pavilion and on NRG stadium, but I dont think we have any large scale or notable ETFE.

  33. if they time this thing right, its going to be a HUGE success. Imagine this building opens in July / August of 2021. The vaccine has rolled out, people are itching to get out and BOOM there is this place ready for you to spend you money. 2021 is going to be a GREAT YEAR (i keep telling myself as I hide under my desk from the current world).
