I think everything is being built in at least two phases. The retail pavilion and Hotel/condo tower are phase one. The rest of the midrises are future phases.4 points

It was a great experience visiting the park, I am excited for the Land Bridge and further improvements. Somewhat off topic but I only wish that Uptown had a smaller city park within as well as bordering Memorial Park. Great addition to Memorial Park though, I feel that this is now the heart of the park so to speak.3 points

@Avossos Funny you should mention that. I was thinking of Stanley Park while I was there, and that great restaurant. Memorial Park would benefit from such a place. Good thought. @cloud713 those stubs are just a creative change in direction of the walk and provide a resting space that’s out of the traffic path, so to speak. It’s a cool effect.2 points

What a wonderful park. Can’t wait to see all the phases come together. reminds me of Stanley park in Vancouver. will there be a high end restaurant in the park?2 points

Thanks for all the pictures! I wonder if they plan on lengthening the boardwalk or if those stubs at the X are just design?2 points

I believe it is. I’ve been pushing this idea since seeing a MidtownHOU PDF on the bike lane a few years ago. https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/fff4a3c2-5732-4a3d-8724-9ed39d67e0e1 I contacted the architect behind this. His response.2 points

Houston could be catching some tail winds if/when life science research gets a boost in funding or a shot in the arm due to effects of Covid. I hope our local legislators and public/private advocates rise to the challenge/opportunity.2 points

Yahooooooooooooooooooo! i will ride my bike by there today after work to go check it out....seriously so excited! thanks for the heads up and photos @EaDo Lou ! edited to say i went right after work last night on my bike (a short 12 minute ride if that!)...and dang it's beautiful!!! wasn't really crowded at all like i thought it might...love the little Live Oak Court Food Truck Park! the string lights hang above the area which will be so fun at night once this craziness is over and we can go back to actually going to fun events etc! Hines Lake is just the best...it adds sooooooo much to Memorial Park...even saw a handful of ducks and birds enjoying it! They have this cool long wooden curved bench on the north side of the lake that for some reason was my favorite area...just seemed peaceful. the wooden walkways on the north end (near this bench area that start from Live Oak Court) were nice and quiet...they have these randomly placed extended parts that confuse me as maybe you are supposed to be able to bird watch or look a the trees haha...maybe its a good place to have a small blanket and relax in the shade? anyway...seriously, this place is beautiful and so excited it is now open. (oh and yep rode my bike a total of 4 hours so i could enjoy the park, then head downtown then back to watch the sunset on the east end of the park!...loved it!)1 point

I visited this place oftenin my 15 years here.I admit I liked it a bit better pre renovation. I always wondered if that renovation somehow was connected to the stickers that were placed over the women’s face In all those large PR framed pictures that hung on the wall. what ever was up with that, it reminded me of going through family photo albums and seeing that the offensive husband of my great aunt was torn out or cigarette burned out of any photo he was in after he had divorced that Aunt. Wondering if maybe that’s just a southern reaction to a former loved ones betrayal.1 point

If we did, it would include a "s" 😉 Jokes aside, no, it's really exciting to see how the neighborhood is going vertical.1 point

Yes, this one seems to be moving fast. How are sales For the residential portion in this environment? I believe the condos are on top of a hotel, a very difficult business now.1 point

My idea was to give it to CrossFit and have them do some kind of workout that involves manual demolition and running up and down stairs with buckets of debris.1 point

i think the answer to your question is yes. But this particular project is downtown, where there are no minimum parking requirements.1 point

Houston is still a very spread out City. Just because the immediate area is walkable doesn't mean that everyone will be ok with being 100% carless. In other words just because residents can live carless doesn't mean that they will want to. Work and groceries might be the top places that residents go to, and they would definitely be able to do that without a car on this area but there are other things that people do. Who knows, there might be some that need to go to the airport regularly and doing that on the bus is possible but still not all that convenient. Others might have family spread across the city and need to drive to those places. Downtown has good food, but not all the great good places are downtown. So although a fine existence is possible at that spot without a car, it might not be a good enough existence for everyone1 point

I believe everyone on this site is very familiar with this Holiday Inn. It has been on all of our wish lists to be repurposed or leveled. It is definitely the eyesore of downtown.1 point

I don't think it's been said enough. There have been some incredibly civic minded Houston, philanthropists over the decades. Really too many to name all. However in my mind the two most positive forces in Houston over the last decade has to be the Kinders. She was instrumental in raising the money for Discovery Green. They donated millions for the ongoing bayou beautification project. They have a new wing of the museum named in their honor, and 70 million, this week to the Memorial Park conservancy, to put a little git in their gitty up. Hats off to two outstanding transplants, who are doing the heavy lifting of Houston, into the 21st century!1 point
