It was a neat idea, but if half the midtown businesses were against it, I can see why they didn't go forward3 points

From the linked wikipedia page: Following one of the source links, they have some pictures https://www.engineersgarage.com/egblog/china-unwraps-worlds-first-driverless-rail-transit-system-with-autonomous-technology/ Also this explains why there's room for a driver - it's semi-autonmous, more like a Tesla than the little autonomous bus Metro is running around TSU The doors look about the same height as your typical light rail, and the "tracks" should allow it to align close enough to a platform to allow for level boarding2 points

Houston Public Works withdraws Brazos Street bridge revamp plans Houston Public Works has pulled proposals to permanently close the Brazos Street bridge and implement new pedestrian features around a corridor threaded between the Montrose area and Midtown. “Please be advised that the Houston Public Works Department along with Mayor Turner has made the decision to resume the project with the original design,” reads a Public Works notice sent to stakeholders on April 2. https://communityimpact.com/houston/heights-river-oaks-montrose/transportation/2020/04/02/houston-public-works-withdraws-brazos-street-bridge-revamp-plans/2 points

This photo is from yesterday. Construction has re-started after the brief shutdown due to confusion between the City and State SiP Orders. The brief shutdown did cause both crane installations to be postponed until later this month. Source1 point

I literally got stuck in a bike traffic jam riding along Buffalo Bayou. There were about 30 people in front of me on bikes and another random amount of people going past. Zero indication they were part of any groups... just a bunch of different people riding. Nothing I've ever seen.1 point
-
Sounds like this is just a temporary measure. The article says they just recorded their highest monthly usage so it's not a lack of riders but just some safety precautions.1 point

The second page of the permits finally shifted, the occupant name is going to be "Ola H.......". Problem with stucco it shows all the imperfections on a building.1 point

I really like this development. I think opening bars around this area would actually create a cool synergy between the young urban populace and the older folks moving into this/these developments. Lord knows we as a society need to pay better attention to our older population. Here's to hoping that they can in some way make attractions that keep the elders in mind. (Not that I think even a fraction of them would actually go out to bars, but I'm sure there's a sizable group)1 point

While still a mystery as to which part of the building (and maybe which building)... i did see this mentioned in a new article: The new gym will open in Uptown Houston’s Post Oak Central campus, operated by Parkway Property Investments, according to a release. This will be the first TruFusion Houston location and third Texas site. Buff and soon-to-be buff locals can expect a 12,000-square-foot space, which is set to open in winter 2019 at a street level retail space at 1990 Post Oak Blvd. http://houston.culturemap.com/news/city-life/07-23-19-jennifer-lopez-alex-rodriguez-trufusion-russell-wilson-houston-post-oak-central/1 point

I saw this yesterday and wondered if that is how big the space was where Dynamic Fitness was as this would make sense as a replacement...however i noticed the article says 1990 Post Oak and Dynamic was at 1980 Post Oak...(although the same compound/Post Oak Central). I guess we shall see. and still waiting and hoping to see cool editions like the restaurant in the post a couple above... hope things like that still happen.1 point

I agree. Didn't they use wood for some of the exterior of their midrise across the street from St. Annes on Westheimer.1 point

hopefully it doesn't looked dated in 10 years... wood can go gray very quickly.1 point

Washington Avenue started getting development like this about 10 years ago and is still, at the current rate, about 50 years away from all the developments connecting and being walkable. I don't want to think about the timetable for 34th Street.1 point
-
W 34th is primed for development, and could work well in terms of walkability if developed in the right way. Nice to see a developer planning ahead for increased density in a spot like this.1 point
-
Impressive density for an area where dirt isn't ALL that expensive.1 point

I see they have been working on the north side of the building...any new updates etc?1 point

This is a great addition to an already amazing project that has transformed Brays bayou into a series of retention pond parks, to help reduce flooding. Here is a link to the overall project. This was a great solution to a very serious problem and it shows what can be done when different groups get together to work out problems. I applaud this. projectbrays.org/index.asp1 point

Well if you can settle for a town home, there are tons south of i-10 zoned to MHS in a great community called Ethans Glen. The address is anything off of Litchfield. You can even go for bigger in a gated community called Woodstone. The address for Woodstone is 201 Vanderpool1 point
