  4. I like trying to get some inside info from these guys, hope it doesn't get them in trouble for releasing any insider news. edit: I mentioned I was on HAIF to him and he was impressed how much info on the projects we had.

  5. I feel bad for those guys. I had a project a few months ago on several older water towers where the city(not in houston) had lost the original drawings and wanted to analyze the towers. I was on a 100' lift for about 2 weeks. Photo below is @ about 70'. Anyway long story short, anytime we moved that sucker it felt like it bounced around 1'-2'. Made my knees shake every-time.

  7. Talked with a different worker at the Preston demo who seemed to know more details. He said they will start utilities work this summer and Harvey actually has the complete contract for all the buildings.

  9. i count 33 as well but the top floor of the podium and the penthouse floors look to be double height so this should have the scale of a 35-story tower, give or take. although i still preferred the original jenga-style design, this turned out better than what i was expecting. fences are up so hopefully they break ground soon.

  12. This thing has a HUGE presence driving south on 610 now. The angle of 610 and this building makes it looks like you're gonna drive right into it from afar.

  18. Biggest one JLG makes is the 1850J which has a 185' reach, biggest I've ever been on was 150' and it was scary to be up there when it moves around. Bend at the knees to absorb the movement. Actually they are called AWP(Aerial Work Platform) not cherry picker but most people just call them "JLG's since they are one of the most common, like Jello or Kleenex.

  19. That is just Phase II of Regent Square. There are two more phases. You also have Wood Partners deal next to Hanover's. And the JLB site that burnt down that is under contract to another apartment developer. The corridor between Allen Pkwy and W Dallas has to have over 3,500 units planned.

  20. OK, challenge accepted - I've now read the petition at the link Urb posted earlier today in this thread. I haven't dug up the restrictions themselves, nor do I intend to; however, it's a Really Bad Idea to misrepresent the contents of recorded documents in a lawsuit filing so I'm going to accept the quotes and representations about them in the petition at face value. I think the suit has merit. IDK about being able to exclude all "commercial use" since the lot in question has been used as a business office (albeit for the developer) for decades, but the architectural control and lot division provisions (with which the Tanglewood office appears to comply) probably still govern; hence, no 20 story building or condo. Edit: Two other reasons to have a lawsuit such as this one. First, deed restrictions are a "use it or lose it" tool, so the HOA kinda has to file suit to maintain its pattern of enforcement (which is substantially more than just posturing). Second, if the restrictions are ambiguous, this type of suit ought to clear up the ambiguity (which is one of the things this suit asks for).

  21. Good points. Guess it will feel more natural. Hopefully we do actually get those buildings close to the bayou though. Love that older 1920s feel.

  22. Different architecture makes it look like the buildings weren't all built at the same time. It helps make it feel more like a natural neighborhood.

  24. I'm just going to leave this here. If you care more about facts than simply being right about everything then here you go. If this isn't how you care to conduct yourself then you can believe whatever you want to believe, and continue to live in your protective bubble where you are never wrong and conspiracies are everywhere: These are the parts of TAS (Texas Accessibility Standards) which apply to this situation. Which this plaza passes. Every project above a certain sqft has to submit plans to TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation) which this project most certainly had to do. The flattened part of the plaza constitutes as the arrival point for the plaza and therefore by complying with that part of the code it can do whatever they would like with the rest especially if its not something that is radically different in experience for from those that are handicap. EDIT: if anyone would like to share this with phillip_white than please feel free as I'm sure I've been blocked at this point. 204 Protruding Objects 204.1 General. Protruding objects on circulation paths shall comply with 307. 206 Accessible Routes 206.1 General. Accessible routes shall be provided in accordance with 206 and shall comply with Chapter 4. 206.2 Where Required. Accessible routes shall be provided where required by 206.2. 206.2.1 Site Arrival Points. At least one accessible route shall be provided within the site from accessible parking spaces and accessible passenger loading zones; public streets and sidewalks; and public transportation stops to the accessible building or facility entrance they serve. Advisory 206.2.1 Site Arrival Points. Each site arrival point must be connected by an accessible route to the accessible building entrance or entrances served. Where two or more similar site arrival points, such as bus stops, serve the same accessible entrance or entrances, both bus stops must be on accessible routes. In addition, the accessible routes must serve all of the accessible entrances on the site. Advisory 206.2.1 Site Arrival Points Exception 2. Access from site arrival points may include vehicular ways. Where a vehicular way, or a portion of a vehicular way, is provided for pedestrian travel, such as within a shopping center or shopping mall parking lot, this exception does not apply. 206.2.2 Within a Site. 26. On my leisure bike rides I routinely will photograph and report potholes and busted signs on the 311 app. The city actually does a decent job executing fixes (if its within their jurisdiction). Report that pothole if you can, it'll get filled relatively quickly.

  33. Talked with a Harvey worker who was helping out at the Preston garage demo who works the Camden Conte. I asked if he heard whether they would start the second tower after this was completed. He didn't know because Camden has their own construction division and thought they might do the work themselves after overseeing the build of the first tower. I also asked when they would be letting tenants move in and he said November for the first 14 floors and they would turn over the completed building to Camden first part of next year.
