  1. I think the renderings given so far don't do the best at making this building look as refined as it will be when built. I was recently shown a closer and more detailed rendering and I think this building is going to look great when finished. Very excited to see it go up.

  2. Working on and unloading the rebar on Sunday. I wonder where and how many tower cranes this will have. My guess would be 2 of them and probably on the wings on either side of the high rise.

  5. The gridwork of rebar to that goes into the mats for high-rise towers is pretty amazing!

  6. After reading the Downton Districts 2018 Update, I saw something about the mural and wanted to see for myself. “Produce Row,” a sprawling, 7,000-SF mural that spans three levels now adorns Main&Co mixed-use devel- opment. designed and painted by local artist duAL, and conceptualized by uP Art Studio, the mural at the intersection of Main and commerce streets is a tribute to commerce Street’s history as the site for Houston’s first farmers market in the 1870s. Main&co is home to the cottonmouth club; etRo nightclub; Lilly&Bloom; and a contemporary arts space.

  7. Went to visit today. Had a million questions for the front desk. A Hanover staff member was in the office and overheard my conversation. As she was leaving for the day she approached me asking if I would like a showing.. mentioned I'd like to see a 1 bedroom, but my girlfriend wants me to look at 2 bedrooms. Said she'll show me both! Obviously, I think, both of us know I couldn't afford this. She was just showing me around, since I was so intrigued. Hanover BLVD Place tour tomorrow!! 🍺

  10. The retaining wall/forms are 8-10 feet tall, and the hole is really deep, probably 30-40 feet. I'm wondering how they are going to get the crane out of the hole. I'm guessing they will build another dirt ramp after the mat pour.

  11. If we're to have a new commercial airport, one in the west side of the city makes more sense than one in Conroe. Hobby is on the south/southeast side of town, IAH is on the north/northeast side. There's nothing on the west side. It takes an hour or more to drive from places like Katy, Fulshear, Richmond, or Rosenberg to both Hobby and IAH. Its even worse during rush hour. Perhaps Houston Executive or Sugar Land Regional will become a commercial airport someday in the future.

  12. Vaughn Construction an Aggie Alumn company is of course picked to build an A & M building. http://www.vaughnconstruction.com/explore/news-and-events/2018/02/21/vaughn-wins-major-texas-a-m-health-science-center-renovation-project VAUGHN WINS MAJOR TEXAS A&M HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER RENOVATION PROJECT by Vaughn Construction | Feb 21, 2018 Texas A&M Health Science Center selected Vaughn as the construction manager-at-risk for the Engineering and Health Building Renovation project in the Texas Medical Center. The existing 282,000 SF, 17-story steel frame office building will be renovated to serve as the education and training facility for Texas A&M’s new Engineering Health program. The program will be the nation’s first comprehensive educational program to fully integrate engineering into all health-related disciplines. The initiative hopes to build upon Texas A&M’s long-standing research and education presence in Houston. The $31 million project will include new gross anatomy labs, simulation labs, lecture halls, MEP infrastructure improvements, and skin improvements. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2019 and targets a final completion date of July 2020.

  18. So I guess we can call the Downtown Living Initiative a success now that residential and hotels continue to get built without tax incentives.

  19. What makes you say that? 609 is already 93% leased and this was like a third full before it even broke ground.

  21. Even with the recent "setback". TCR is still pursuing a late 2019 or early 2020 start date. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/neighborhood/spring/news/article/Houston-Dallas-high-speed-rail-construction-may-13620560.php#photo-14995150 TCR brings aboard financial advisers to begin capital-raising efforts. https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2019/02/22/texas-central-citi-mufg.html Seems like its full steam ahead to me.

  22. I’m trying really hard to be excited for it, but it’s just not doing anything for me. I know it’s better than an empty lot, and it’ll try to engage the ground level and have great amenities. But I worry this is the last large office tower we may be seeing in awhile, and I feel like this design is a missed opportunity.

  25. NYC CSA 23.9 Million: 7 commercial airports (CSAs seems like a better comparison for airport purposes than Metro areas) LA CSA 18.8 Million: 5 commercial airports Chicago CSA 9.9 Million: 2 commercial airports currently Baltimore Washington CSA 9.8 Million: 4 commercial airports San Jose-San Francisco CSA 8.8 Million: 4 commercial airports Boston CSA 8.2 Million: 4 commercial airports Dallas Fort Worth CSA 7.8 Million: 2 commercial airports ( but Meacham Field expects to add commercial service soon) Philadelphia CSA 7.2 Million: 3 commercial airports Houston CSA 7 Million: 2 commercial airports Miami Ft Lauderdale CSA 6.8 Million: 3 commercial airports Atlanta CSA 6.6 Million: 3 commercial airports Detroit CSA 5.3 Million: 2 commercial airports Seattle CSA 4.8 Million: 2 commercial airports So, comparatively, the idea of Houston having three commercial airports is not unreasonable, especially considering nobody is talking about tomorrow, but about a minimum of 5-10 years down the road, likely more -- as we approach a population of 9 - 10 million.
