  2. I have been up to the Wells Fargo skylobby about 5 times now since my first post. Just dress nice and you should be fine. Worse case, they just ask you to leave. I was caught once, but had shorts/sandals on and was feeling lucky. The skylobby elevators for Wells Fargo are to your left when you walk in, on the last elevator bank. 4. More likely Skyhouse Willis, followed by Skyhouse Brookshire. Actually, this sort of development would fit well in Galveston, but I don't sense residential highrises are very active, saleswise, on the Island.

  5. I got this shot on a walk over a pedestrian bridge while exploring the area north of the courthouses. I believe the cranes for this project and HSPVA (a bit hard to see but in front of the Hess Tower) are in view.

  8. One positive benefit of an oil-related recession would be if this were somehow to be left as a vacant piece of dirt, rather than the building in the rendering be built on it.

  10. I think access is fine - you can't get to it DIRECTLY from multiple freeways, but you can scoot across various neighborhoods and get there - which should lead to that AHA! look what WE found thing that people like when they reach their destination - - that's always been the lure of the area - it's close to work or its close to home or its in between, and there are lots of interesting things tucked in here and there to keep people busy. A concentration of business, home, and entertainment, restaurant would do WONDERFULLY here. Will be fun to watch.

  12. All black people are cool. Just like all white people and Asian and Hispanic and all races are cool. Except Kim Jong Un.

  13. From my vantage point (listening to live from club 6400 every saturday night on 93q) whatever party they had going in the 70s, kept on going into the 80s.

  15. Didn't mean to start a war. Just commenting on the point that in 4 months 609 is barely popping its head out of the ground. I know nothing of construction, just thought it would be higher by now

  16. There's a Dunkin Donuts going in under 1000 Main where Quizno's used to be. Now that's a restaurant scene rebirth right there.

  17. Yes, I agree taller buildings have stronger bones and take longer to build. That does not mean all office towers take longer to build than residential. The added time caused by the higher live loads is offset by the added amount in interior build out. Another obvious point to consider is floor plates. These days, a 25,000 sf plate is typical for office, whereas residential can get away with smaller floor plates. My point was that a blanket statement about use is not possible, there are too many variables.

  23. Why? Because it won't be made up entirely of the richest of the rich who seclude themselves in their gentrified utopia? Oh no, it won't be pretty to look at! Get over it, this project helps benefit ALL Houstonians.

  24. Actually, that's false, as the last couple of private-venture rockets blew up on launch. Government seems to be ahead in this race. Also, while you're hating on government, I hope you're appreciating the government-created internet that's allowing you to do so here.

  25. I think there may be reason... there has been some talk of this complex being due for redevelopment, as the density that was built in the late 90's is low for that piece of land in today's market. They have already redeveloped the southwest quadrant of the site with 4 story and garage (vs. 2-3 story and surface parking), and the rest of it does not seem long for this world. It will be interesting to see whether Midway redevelops this as a retail development like City Centre or if they do a stacked mixed-use that would bring real urbanism to the Washington & Heights intersection.
