  1. Slow but steady. The floor pictured is above the bottom parking level. Next floor will be above grade.

  2. So this is the new design...which is disappointing. Now known as "Bridgeview Crossing" by Griffin Partners. Breaks ground 1Q 2015. http://www.loopnet.com/xNet/MainSite/Listing/Profile/Profile.aspx?LID=18857348

  3. Also, word on the street is that Trammel is going to build another midrise just north of the one going up right now at Main and Hadley. Where will I ever sell my gold from now on?!??!!

  4. Freeway architecture at its worst. The glass/prettier side with the garage hidden faces the highway. The concrete/stucco blank walled garage and boring 1970s institutional hospital side faces the Montrose neighborhood behind it. Total a$$hole move

  5. That fenced-in building across the street should look pretty neat: http://www.loopnet.com/xNet/MainSite/Listing/Profile/Profile.aspx?LID=18872119&SRID=4904773490&StepID=101

  6. Please no. This is ok for something like SimCity, but not in real life!

  7. Talk about a schizophrenic design--this one is all over the place. Why an attempt to conceal the parking levels on the freeway side (as poor as the treatment is), but no attempt whatsoever on the neighborhood side? No attempt whatsoever to integrate the parking levels into the overall design. Not even an attempt to use the bridge characteristics as a model for the building design--if there going to name it after something they might as well incorporate said model into the design. One of the worst designs around these parts in a while. Maybe a large mural can improve the large Montrose facing wall??? A great piece of public art would keep everyone from looking at the building itself.

  8. You're right. It really isn't BAD, but the red brick would have complimented the Montrose / Museum District vibe. Also the street interaction is much much worse.

  9. "Bridgeview Crossing"? Sounds like some suburban strip center. As in "The Shoppes at Bridgeview Crossing".

  10. If SXSW leaves Austin it would loose all the appeal it has left.

  11. I would like to keep as many trees as possible. If the main streets get filled with high rises like Westheimer and Montrose I'd be ok with it, preserving the smaller streets. Which is slowly but surely happening.

  13. What I like least in the new design is the big plain vertical slab facing Montrose, covering what appears to be a stairwell. The original design had windows facing the street, and what looked like a cool red lobby.

  14. Maybe Astoria is the new Sky House and we will see them all over Houston and in other cities as well. Just a thought.

  16. Whenever I see a Randall Davis project: I'm reminded of that "famous" quote from The Dark Knight about the "hero Gotham deserves...but not the one we need right now" I don't know why, but I just feel like it is appropriate for him? Except he's sort of the inverse. If that makes sense?

  17. Alrighty then. I eagerly await what Hines will do with this site. Hopefully the architecture will be consistent with the Menil Museum.

  20. It can and probably will flood. This photo shows White Oak Bayou flooding just up the street at White Oak and Greenleaf St.

  21. I could be wrong , but I believe Mrs. Menil was against building a high rise on the Menil properties. Lots of things have changed since Her death but I think that is one request they plan to follow.

  22. What a downgrade design wise . . . Atleast it still has some height to it.

  23. NOOOOO!!! not that M fifty nine was amazing, but the garage everything on this looks terrible. at least the bland beige stucco(?) side that looks like its straight off a 1970s hospital or some almost brutalist federal building is facing to the north/away from the highway.

  27. There was a Grandy's at 9205 S. Main. It's now a Baytown Seafood. There was also a McDonald's at 9203 S. Main that's now a Shipley's Do-nuts. The Whataburger at 4616 OST closed down a few months ago. It's boarded up. I don't know if you want to include it since it was replaced by a brand new Whataburger about a mile down the road.

  30. There are no stupid questions. It's not for sure until dirt starts moving. Nothing is. For all we know, the economy could collapse tomorrow and all proposed projects would be canceled. Of course, the chances of this happening is extremely low, but my point is, as I stated above, that we can't be sure a project will happen until it actually happens.

  31. And apparently they have the property just to the west to go vertical on for a second phase.

  32. ... do you get off the road at, calling people "retarded"? ... I don't really care - mostly, I just wanted to also post a massively oversized and unnecessary GIF, stolen borrowed from a graphic design firm that last updated their website in 1998.
