I just stumbled upon this forum and figured I'd contribute. I work for Hess (building adjacent) to this site so here are some pictures from the 7th floor. I can provided updated photos throughout the build from different elevations inside Hess Tower. Sorry for the glare & reflection on the photos.

Here is an update on the contruction progress or more acurately pit digging. They have a new tracked drill looking thing on site. I don't know what it does but it looks interesting at least.

I just spoke with a manager at Skyhouse 1, who confirmed that Skyhouse 2 downtown is in the works. In fact, she mentioned that they received permitting last week, and it is projected to break ground mid-2015 and be completed sometime in 2016. Lets keep our fingers crossed. I saw this go up. The reduction of a Hollyhurst building line may support the hotel thesis on the back of the property. Anyone else heard updates on this property (south of Landry's HQ)?

Sheesh. Commercial and residential construction workers safety culture is stunning to me sometimes... Plasma torching without a faceshield. Shortsleeves. Saw cutting without a respirator Improperly wearing a fall arrest harness.

I was using my lap top earlier and didn't have any pictures on it. I have found the picture, hope you enjoy it. It also has a big Rettig's ice cream sign on it too. Looking close at the picture it appears that an A & P store was next to the drug store. The photo is from the Sloane collection so we will give him credit for the pic. I have posted two pictures one from when It was built and the other as it looks now.

Cherry Demolition is on site and the whole area is fenced off, I can only guess this building will happen.

The implosion date is set for next month.

Can anyone else confirm? I'm still in doubt it has been there since Saturday around noon. /s

Bigge is in the process of erecting the first tower crane boom when I went by Sunday morning.

I don't know about this. Urbannizer is amongst the most reliable & highly regarded sources on this board but that link has some outdated information, coupled with an old rendering from the old Amarican Apparel renovation that didn't happen. (No offense, Urbannizer, I hope you're right on this too) I hope some big retailer makes this design happen. Not just 1 floor, the whole building. Do the edifice justice. We lost Macy's but we could still regain that throwback Downtown Department store Macy's was (with a better design) if Sakowitz is done right. If a Dallas St Shopping District is to happen, it's starts with Sakowitz.

OK, I remember the Fulton from my teenage years, but I didn't know it later became the Colonial. Thanks. I have another memory of my nights at the McClendon Triple and it began in the 50s when i was in high school in Pasadena. Like most Pasadena kids I spent a lot of time at the Capitan Theater, and like most young and horny teenagers I always hoped to meet a girl and do some making out on the back row or in the balcony. One night in 1960 a girl and I got caught making out - heavily - and one of the ushers escorted us to the lobby where he reported us to the manager, a guy named Bill Scott. He kicked us out and told me I was banned for life. Fast forward to 1971. I was married with two kids, working in the radio business and moonlighting at the Mac Triple for the extra money. One night the manager took me to the projection booth to show me their new projectors and introduce me to the projectionist. Guess who it was. Bill Scott, the old Capitan Manager, and even 11 years later he remembered me. We had a good laugh over running into each other again so many years later, and he expressed amazement that I appeared to be making something of myself as a radio broadcaster. Only half joking, he said I had no business working two jobs, and I needed to get a better day job. He was right, and I did. That was more than 40 years ago and I remember it like it was last night.

Excellent pics! Just some advice, another good location is your parking garage on the top floor. Avoids the window glare.

That drill looks like it is for geotech tiebacks for retaining walls. Hard to tell from that distance though. Youtube video explaining typical procedures

^ Agreed! This makes crane number 9 up downtown and we still have at least one more for this and 2 more for 609 Main. That's not including all the cranes about to go up for the multifamily highrises about to start!

I've got this mental image of all of us as little grade school kids bouncing from foot to foot in anticipation of recess as we wait for activity on this site. The anticipations is so thick you'll need a chainsaw to cut through it! lol

Bravo good sir, and welcome to HAIF! EDIT: I'm seriously losing count on cranes in downtown now lol. Not to mention there will probably be a crane for the site near 59, one for 609, another one will be set up on main, the new crane at alley, possibly another two at market square. Craziness!

Great news! I'm excited for another residential high rise in downtown. Now if we could just get a condo tower.

I can't drive by the Reddy Ice (formerly Sparkle Ice) plant without my gaze instinctively alighting on the most visible remnant of the old drive-in: the concrete base that the Reddy Ice sign is mounted in. Holy Moses, you've got the McLendon Triple in there. That's awesome, Amsterdam. Thanks for thinking of the old Garden Oaks on Shepherd, back in the 80s. Back in the 80s, G.O. returned to English titles, abandoning the peliculas Mexicanas they had been showing for several years, and my wife (gf at the time) and I went to see Police Academy 2 there. She had never been to G.O. before, so I wanted to take her. I mean, after all, if you've ever been inside the theater you know she is one beautiful old girl. Anyway, about 45 minutes into the movie, two guys begin to bicker down front. Suddenly, they both stand up and start throwing punches. The smaller guy pulls out a knife, stabs the bigger dude, and needless to say the theater empties. Haven't set foot in G.O. since. I've been tempted to attend a service of the Grace Church that occupies the theater and pharmacy next door currently, just to see what it looks like now, after all these years. Sure wish you'd have gotten the old Airline and Shepherd Drive-Ins back when that video was produced. The bullseye neons that were on the old Airline were stunningly beautiful and the first thing you saw going northbound on 45 back then. Shepherd had the huge palm tree on its screen, facing Shepherd. I had a buddy that lived on Stuebner Airline, right behind it, and we snuck under that fence to see a show on a "few" occasions back in the early 80s, before it was closed and became Reddy Ice. Great job, bud. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

...someone said this is not an attractive tower? i do not think it's bad. of course, we all know a rendering can end up being more attractive than reality. fingers crossed. i want this one to look better than the rendering (which i like... i just want it to look better than good)
