  2. I'm extremely disappointed. I wanted the building to be shorter and a little more boxy. Also, can't they wait until 2025 to build? Why would they want to build this tower before they have enough tenants? What's the rush anyway? What the hell is wrong with everybody? Why can't they ever do anything right in Houston. Traffic everywhere. Insufficient rail. Summer is too hot. I hate the mosquitos too.

  3. A proposed Houston skyscraper is increasing its height? Is today opposite day? I'll take it! Wow

  4. Yeah, Cloud. Loved your idea about a submerged park and this would be an awesome location for it. The Exxon building would look awesome framed by the street level opening. The whole effect could be very mid-century. Hot!

  5. Stinkin awesome. I read some message board this weekend that someone acting like they had knowledge said downtown would be getting close to a 100-story soon. Most likely he was full of it, but here's to hoping he's not!

  6. im glad its going to be taller as well. the only angle it would of stood out in at 41 stories is the north/east side of town. ill go ahead and guess 850 ft (i hope its taller but im trying to be realistic and not get my hopes up). Houston needs some 800ish footers to fill in the void, though anything taller would be icing on the cake.

  7. i emailed the city of Houston planning and development about it and they said the building plans for Exxonmobil building could be viewed at 1002 Washington. i still dont understand why all 4 lots around the tower have remained vacant for all this time.

  8. I finally saw men working out there... on July 4th. The next day as well. It's hard to tell what they were doing. Based on the lack of heavy equipment I'd say they were going into the units and scrapping out the appliances and other things of value.

  9. I think he got that quote from the comments section on the Chron's coverage of the Chevron tower. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2013/07/chevron-to-build-downtown-tower/ The user, UniversalRockstar also goes on to say, "Foundation?! Ha!!! What are you smoking?! Before the 80′s bust there were several 100+ story towers on the drawing board and some are being revived. You will soon see an 85 story and 100+ story towers going up in DTHouston." It would be interesting if he was telling the truth, but there's just something about his posts on that topic that make me think he's the one smoking something...

  10. What do you other posters think this does for the other buildings that were still waiting on tenants downtown? Could this be indicative of strong demand driving a larger scale building and quicker timeline or is this just Hines trying to get out in front of the crowd to ensure quickest return on investment? I could see it either way but I'm not in the know like many others here.

  11. I wonder how much Parker would have had to spend to make that 50 acres acceptable to Walmart? In other news, stories about what people buy at Walmart and how crappy their cars are compared to the other Walmart shoppers's cars are SO interesting. Please keep these kinds of stories coming, but with more detail - like the enthralling coffee stories of the past. What kind of soap? How long have you been out of soap? How did you feel when you used the last of the soap? Have you washed anything with the soap yet? What did you wash? Did it get it clean? When do you think you will have to buy soap again? If you washed your car with the soap, would you feel less embarrassed?

  12. Interior demolition is definitely going on. They are filling up and switching out dumpsters on the Capitol side with what looked like metal bits. Many upper floor windows are open as well. 13. I think that's just a product of the groove. The white line around the roof matches up exactly with it going from the recessed portion back to the standard facade.

  14. Neither are a lot of our existing buildings, but we still routinely hear that Houston has nothing but flat-top boxes. For example, one has to go down to the 9th tallest building downtown before one encounters a plain box. (And even that (One Shell) is not really just a plain box.)

  15. ive heard a few rumors that this building will be bought by Chevron for a potential corporate headquarters relocation in the next 5 years, and either joined into Chevrons campus with a large podium-like structure on the parking lot between Exxon and Chevron, connecting the two, or torn down all together and Chevron builds another building. what do you guys think is the likely hood of this?

  16. 80 postings in less than 12 hours on a single thread at HAIF is talking about it. Get over it already King Owl, we heard you, the first 10 times. The building is cool. Most people are going to like it. Chevron can't please everyone, especially the google crowd. They have to keep this modest. People would be whining all over the world if Chevron built something excessive. Remember they are an evil OIL company and they get enough negative press for excessive spending and keeping gas at $4 per gallon. Just be happy they are going higher than the surrounding buildings and for the impact it will make downtown. Some cities would sacrifice a virgin for this tower. Don't worry, it will get enough attention.
