  3. That is the old Texaco building. Slated to be turned into apartments. The latest information indicates work will start this fall. (I wonder if they delayed the work so that the opening roughly coincides with the completion of the rail constuction?)

  4. The silliness here runs much deeper than that. One reason for the covered antenna was that it would make it the tallest building in the US, whereas an uncovered antenna would not. Also, it was designed so that if the antenna were covered the building would be 1776 feet tall, which is supposed to symbolize independence or whatnot. Personally, I think that engaging in architectural numerology of this sort has to be one of the stupidest trends to come down the pike in a long while. I would vote to leave the antenna uncovered, if for no other reason than to discourage this sort of trite, cheap symbolism.

  7. I've hiked the stretch under construction from I-10 in Katy north to Hwy 290, and I can tell you for sure that it is more like 400 YARDS wide. It cuts a very wide swath through the countryside. The roadway itself is elevated with fill dirt to get above the prairie flooding, then you have shoulders on both sides, and then you have a wide drainage ditch beyond the shoulders, and finally another shoulder outside the drainage, before you get to the new pasture fencing. Or you can just drive the already-completed stretch from I-10 going south to Sugarland, and look at how wide that is. Highway 99 - Katy Prairie by John Rich These photos have been taken during my hikes along the new section of Highway 99 (Grand Parkway) which is under construction from Interstate-10 north to Highway 290. The general theme is the contrast between human construction and the natural beauty of the Katy Prairie. During this spring season, wildflowers were in profusion, and quite beautiful. Come see the prairie beauty, before it's gone... https://picasaweb.go...5JYK&feat=email

  9. Say what you want. I am in support of new development that makes my life easier, and increases my home's value. I don't decide to be pro-development if it is Target/HEB/Whole Foods, and anti-development when it is Walmart/Kroger. I find that mindset to be, oh, what's the word I'm looking for? OH! Hypocritical! That's it. If the arguments had merit, I would agree. But, they do not. The complaints about the feeder roads on I-10 increasing Heights traffic were wrong, as motorists using those roads (including me) now do not drive on Heights residential streets. Encouraging more development around the Target shopping center allows me to complete my shopping in one trip, rather than going in opposite directions to hit Kroger and Target. This is good for me and my neighbors, so I support it. HEB has had two opportunities to secure this and the Walmart property. They chose not to. Your arguments need to be directed toward San Antonio, not downtown. As for 380 agreements? Cities that do not improve, decline. I am much more in favor of a few million to improve infrastructure around my neighborhood than the alternative, leaving them derelict. Both of these lots were vacant. Now they will contribute. If you didn't want a thriving gentrifying neighborhood, then you should have moved to the Heights in the 80s, when it was a slum. The 5th Ward has soome nice historic homes for sale within your budget, too, if crappy grocery stores and infrastructure is your thing.
