The final production of the year for the Town Center Theatre is set, as "Sylvia" begins Friday.
The show follows the story of a man, Greg, who comes across a dog, Sylvia, while out for a walk in the park. The man, 20 years into a marriage and with his children having recently all left the house, decides to bring the dog home and adopt it.
Sylvia becomes an issue of contention between Greg and his wife Kate, who was looking forward to an empty house so she could spend more time with her husband. The play follows a series of events that result in Sylvia becoming a part of the family.
"It's a very honest and sweet portrayal of the relationship between the man and his dog, and his wife," said Chris Tennison, artistic director for Town Center Theatre. "The play is the journey of Kate and Greg to find out what their lives mean after the kids have gone to school. It's something everybody in their 40s and 50s can understand, the feeling of, 'OK, what's next?' "
