  1. Past hour
  2. Strange. The argument against Rasmus's attempts was "going against Walkable Places ordinance". But 25ft minimum setback is always talked about on these boards as detrimental to the pedestrian experience. Based on reactions I've seen on this thread, and elsewhere (i.e. Twitter), I assume it's just the NIMBY getting "creative"? Although ... I still don't know if there is a 25ft minimum setback in that swath of Midtown to begin with (as mentioned in previous post, I thought it was already defined as "CBD" with no building line requirements")?
  3. They must leave the construction lights on as it's crazy bright in these sections at night.
  4. I organized a 3.5 mile walk from Graffiti Park to Post zigzagging through downtown Houston with locals and out of towners this past weekend. It was fun seeing all the murals. I wouldn't do it during summer though .. This is the general route we took.
  5. Today
  6. Urban South Brewery announced its doors are closing. The brewery operated in Sawyer Yards at 1201 Oliver St, Suite 10.
  7. Kinder Morgan, TGS Cedar Port plan carbon storage project - Houston Business Journal (bizjournals.com) "During its first-quarter 2024 earnings call April 17, the Houston-based midstream giant announced it had executed a pore space lease agreement with TGS Cedar Port Partners LP, which owns TGS Cedar Port Industrial Park, the largest master-planned, rail- and barge-served industrial park in the U.S. The pore space spans 10,800 acres near the Houston Ship Channel and can store more than 300 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. Kinder Morgan said this will give the company a geographically and geologically advantaged platform to develop carbon sequestration solutions for nearby emissions."
  8. Tannos, Wolfgramm break ground on Friendswood City Center - Houston Business Journal (bizjournals.com) "Local joint venture Madison Development Corp., made up of Tannos Development Group and Wolfgramm Capital, officially broke ground on Friendswood City Center on April 18."
  9. Rakken Ramen looks to open any day now with all the patio furniture set up and a menu on the door...tons of activity inside as well. Tacodeli will be open next month i bet as i got a peek in the doors and the inside looks to be finishing up nicely although they still have the window coverings up. i will say that Local Foods looks so boring on the inside in person and they are still finishing up the outdoor built in seating/partial wall enclosures. it IS open (as previously mentioned) and a friend and i went inside and felt like we were at that weird employee only cafe in Post Oak Central that is located next to where Tommy's Grill was. So we decided to go elsewhere. They have this horrible 4 globe light lamp post outside the entrance that doesn't match anything and just looks like they just plopped it there in hopes to bring some personality to the place. Instead of adding interest, it just looks misplaced. And not that this place isn't nice...it just has no personality. Already miss the old location.
  10. I see why they put in paid parking in Rice Village. The tenants needed to keep spaces moving as parking is in very short supply. But this strip center's parking is never very full except for evenings when there is spillover parking from across the street. If that is the issue, just have the meters in effect after 5 pm when most of the daytime traffic to the UPS store, etc. is done.
  11. Below is a rendering of Chardon's dining room shared in a Facebook group. Chardon is a French brasserie that's planned for Thompson Hotel / Thompson Houston. It's scheduled to open this summer at 1717 Allen Parkway (address may also be 1711 Allen Pkwy.)
  12. The same can also be said for smoke shops and hot chicken restaurants. 😄
  13. Below are renderings of The Marigold Club's dining room. I noticed they weren't posted here. CultureMap published the images earlier this year. The Marigold Club is a continental American dining concept from Houston's Goodnight Hospitality. It's opening soon at 2531 Kuester. https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/whats-eric-eating-felipe-riccio-austin-waiter-marigold-club/
  14. Weed dispensaries are the new Mattress Firms
  15. . . . and what little plaza there is is tucked over in the corner to maximize parking. I notice the sign on top of the wall looks like it could be easily replaced if ever the need arose. 😏
  16. Rent starts at $1200. That’s less than a mediocre garage apartment in the neighborhood.
