September 19, 2019 – 6:30 pm - 8 pm

Becks Prime, Memorial Park

1001 E Memorial Loop Dr

Houston, TX 77007

Are you new to BCO and curious to discover the ins and outs of what this social, outdoor activity group is about? Or, perhaps, you just need some tips on navigating the website, or you're still a little nervous about attending an event or outing alone. This event is designed specifically for YOU!

Just want to say hi? Do it! You'll meet folks in the same exact boat as you, and you'll learn a whole lot about the upcoming fun Bayou City Outdoors has coming your way.

Our calendar can be a little overwhelming with 80 to 100 events every month, so let us explain some of our favorites and tell you everything you need to know about being a BCO member. We'll fill you in on the perks, discounts, loaner gear, buddy program, website, RSVP system, tips and so much more.

We work hard to make this event a little more “formal” (if we could ever be accused of that) than our “Meet & Greets.” Time and size permitting, we will have a presentation, Q&A and social time, too. Some of our event Leaders will also be on hand to talk about their upcoming events!

Make new friends and learn about all the fun you're about to have in Houston and worldwide! Hiking, biking, traveling, kayaking, socializing and more!

Never been before??

No worries!  More than half of the people going have never been before and many people show up by themselves.  So when you show up, if everyone looks like they have known each other for years.... HTXO Volleyball Social
September 20, 2019 - 6 PM – 9 PM
Sideout Volleybar
2623 Keene St
Houston, TX 77009

Are you looking for more than just another happy hour?

Our happy hour and volleyball event is a great introductory event to help you get active outdoors and to meet other people who are also looking for more than just happy hour. Plus having games to focus on, helps remove some of the awkward pauses that can happen the first time you meet someone.

And the best part… you’re meeting people who with similar interests.  Not just people interested in happy hour or volleyball. The group of people who attend this event are looking for new friends who want to explore Houston, try new things, and get outdoors!

No experience required for volleyball
We’ll spend a little time warming up and going through the rules.  Then we’ll play a few games… we can get as competitive as you all want, but mostly, we’re there to have fun.
We’re an inclusive group which means we still hit the ball to new players who may or may not be able to return it. It’s the only way people can get better!

Don’t want to play volleyball? No problem!
Plenty of people come out just to socialize on the large patio, play a game of cornhole or ping pong!  Plus, they have a full bar and food truck.

What to expect:
Getting there: You can’t see Sideout from the street near the railroad tracks. Once you turn, you’ll see a large dark parking lot.  Sideout is at the very end of the parking lot and fully lit when you get there.

Parking: FREE PARKING and there is plenty of it! The parking lot is overflow parking for While Oak Music Hall (WOMH). If there is an event at WOMH, you might see a parking attendee collecting money for parking.  Just tell them that you’re there for volleyball and you don’t have to pay to park.

How to find the group: The venue is not usually packed. When you walk in, turn to the right and follow the patio towards the building. We usually setup a table with an HTXoutdoors sign outside of the door that leads inside the building. If you get to the ping pong table or the dog park, just turn around and you’ll probably see us on the right. If you don’t see the HTXoutdoors sign, ask the bar tender.  They usually know where we are.  We usually play on Court 1 which is the court closest to the bar.

Never been before??
No worries!  More than half of the people going have never been before and many people show up by themselves.  So when you show up, if everyone looks like they have known each other for years.... Don’t worry.  They likely just met.  Look for the event leader and then them know it’s your first time and we’ll make sure to take care of you!

About the group you’re meeting: Because this event is open to everyone, we get a lot of people who are coming out for the first time! That means not everyone knows each other yet so you don’t have to worry about crashing a group of people who have been friends for years. So if everyone is chatting up a storm when you get there, it’s just because they have quickly realized they have a lot in common. And even when some of the people know each other, they are still there to meet more people with similar interest.

Dog & Kid Friendly: Dog-Friendly for friendly dogs.  Dog must be on a leash… UNLESS… you let them loose in the dog park attached to the patio!
Kid-Friendly for friendly kids until 9pm.  After 9pm, the venue turns to 21+.

Who is HTXoutdoors?
If you have been looking for a group to explore Houston, do outdoor activities and meet people with similar interests, you have finally found it! We are Houstonians (new, original and somewhere in between) in our 20’s & 30’s and we love the outdoors! With a zest for adventure, we have day trips, weekend trips & international trips.  So if you have 2 weeks of vacation or “unlimited”…you can find new adventures to fit your schedule.

Come out and meet others interested in hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and more!  It’s a good chance to meet each other. It’s an even better chance to plan some adventures.

BCO & HTXO present A Walk in the Woods Aka Hiking Houston

September 21, 2019

Meet at 8:30 AM, start 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Meet at Memorial Park Rugby Field Parking Lot

N Picnic Lane, Houston, TX 77007

Hiking in Houston does exist! And we’re going to show you by taking you on some ‘hidden’ trails that even some native Houstonians don’t know about!  And, it’s right here, inside the loop!

Join us for an hour and a half, quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and more adventuresome) trails our park has to offer.

What to Wear:

These are actual trails!!  Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. You’ll be shocked at some of the "elevation" in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by.

Wear long pants, yes, even in the summer.  It helps to protect your legs from bugs, critters and branches that might jump out and bite you!

What else to bring:

Water!  Water is required.

Bug Spray

Sun Protection - hat, sun glasses, long sleeves, sunscreen

Where to Park:

Please, check the meeting location map (https://bit.ly/2M6GKST ) on the calendar before you head over to the park.  It’s a big park, and we try and leave on time!

If the lot is full, there is plenty of street parking.

How to find the group:

Look for the HTXO & BCO signs for where the parking lot is.  We’ll be on the grass at the back of that parking lot.  (not standing in the parking lot.)

Never been before??

No worries!  More than half of the people going have never been before and many people show up by themselves.  So when you show up, if everyone looks like they have known each other for years.... Little Library Bike Ride with BCO & HTXO

September 22, 2019 – 9 am to 12 pm

Meet at Onion Creek

3106 White Oak Dr., Houston, TX 77007

Have you seen those little libraries popping up all over town?  It’s such a cool concept that we thought it would be fun to bike ride to a few and add some books!

Bring a book to donate to the libraries.  The book doesn’t have to be new so you can hit up any local used book store or pick something off your ‘dusty’ book shelf. We’ll also do a fun little game to see if any else brought the same book as you.

NOTE: If we end up having more books than we can fill libraries, BCO will drive around town and fill the rest of the libraries with the remaining books!

Bring your bike and helmet. No musics please. No pulling kids in stroller bikes. No riding on handle bars.  We practice bike safety to keep you safe.   You’ll need either a basket or a bookbag to carry your book!

No bike? No worries! Houston has great rental options. Choose from:

B-Cycle Kiosk: Looking for the quickest rental option? B-Cycle allows you to rent via mobile app. There are many stations around town to pick up and drop off your rental. Check their map and pricing options information here: http://houston.bcycle.com.

BCO & HTXO Member Gear: If you are a member of Bayou City Outdoors and do not have a bike, we can loan you a bike for the ride; however, you MUST call the office 1 to 2 weeks in advance to arrange for the loaner bike.

Where to Meet:

Onion Creek, 3106 White Oak Dr., Houston, TX 77007. Please DO NOT park in the Onion Creek lot – there is parking on the surrounding streets, but look out for ‘no parking’ signs. Meet at 8:30 AM – Our ride will go from 9:00 AM to 12 PM.

This event is FREE for members and non-members alike. This event is open to older kids (teenagers) who have good bike handling skills.

Please note - we will be riding on some busy Houston streets.

RSVP at https://bit.ly/2MgAkQv for additional information, please e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com
