BCO & HTXO  New Years Day Hike

January 1, 2019 - Meet at 6:15 PM, start 6:30 PM to 8 PM

Meet at Memorial Park Rugby Field Parking Lot

N Picnic Lane , Houston , TX   77007

“For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice.” T.S. Eliot

You’ve made resolutions in the past to be healthier and more adventurous, but this year is your year to actually make it happen, and good news, we’re here to help. Who do you want to be in 2019? What do you want to accomplish?

Put your best foot forward on January 1st and hike in the New Year with BCO and HTXOutdoors’ New Year’s Day Hike! Even if you’re not the resolution type, we can’t think of a better way to kick off the New Year than exploring the back trails of Houstonians’ favorite, Memorial Park. As the Chinese Proverb goes, “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”

Call me an optimist, but I love New Year’s Day. For me, it’s like I get the chance to hit life’s big reset button. Midnight hits, the ball drops, and I’m all of the sudden, miraculously refocused and determined to check-off everything on my resolution bucket list.

One of those things on my list this year, along with so many of our other members, is to hike the Incan Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru. To make it to this UNESCO World Heritage Site, I’m going to have to walk 8-12 miles a day. It goes without saying that I’ll be starting my training January 1st with our New Year’s Day Hike.

I’ll leave you with another corny quote by C.S. Lewis to hopefully inspire you to join us on January 1st and/or any day after, “There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” We’ve got bigger and better adventures planned ahead for 2019, whether you want to stick around in Houston or travel the globe, visit our websites to find out more!

HIKE EVENT DETAILS

We’ll be meeting at the Rugby Field Parking Lot in Memorial Park, and heading out at 6:30 pm promptly, to hike some of Houston’s best inner city outdoor trails. The hike will most likely last until 8 pm.

Please leave your human kids at home, but feel free to bring your other furry ones. We find our four-legged friends can keep up on hikes and are less impacted by our undistinguished adult behavior.

RSVP at https://bit.ly/2AU6ri0 For additional info, please call 713-524-3567 or e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com .

HTXO Happy Hour plus Volleyball!
Friday, January 4, 2019 - 6 PM – 9 PM
Sideout Volleybar
2623 Keene St, Houston, TX 77009

Are you looking for more than just another happy hour?

Our happy hour and volleyball event is a great introductory event to help you get active outdoors and to meet other people who are also looking for more than just happy hour.  Plus having games to focus on, helps remove some of the awkward pauses that can happen the first time you meet someone.
And the best part… you’re meeting people who with similar interests.  Not just people interested in happy hour or volleyball. The group of people who attend this event are looking for new friends who want to explore Houston, try new things, and get outdoors!

No experience required for volleyball
We’ll spend a little time warming up and going through the rules.  Then we’ll play a few games… we can get as competitive as you all want, but mostly, we’re there to have fun.
We’re an inclusive group which means we still hit the ball to new players who may or may not be able to return it. It’s the only way people can get better!

Don’t want to play volleyball? No problem!
Plenty of people come out just to socialize on the large patio, play a game of cornhole or ping pong!  Plus, they have a full bar and food truck.

What to expect:
Getting there: You can’t see Sideout from the street near the railroad tracks. Once you turn, you’ll see a large dark parking lot.  Sideout is at the very end of the parking lot and fully lit when you get there.

Parking: FREE PARKING and there is plenty of it! The parking lot is overflow parking for While Oak Music Hall (WOMH). If there is an event at WOMH, you might see a parking attendee collecting money for parking.  Just tell them that you’re there for volleyball and you don’t have to pay to park.

How to find the group: The venue is not usually packed. When you walk in, turn to the right and follow the patio towards the building. We usually setup a table with an HTXoutdoors sign outside of the door that leads inside the building. If you get to the ping pong table or the dog park, just turn around and you’ll probably see us on the right. If you don’t see the HTXoutdoors sign, ask the bar tender.  They usually know where we are.  We usually play on Court 1 which is the court closest to the bar.

About the group you’re meeting: Because this event is open to everyone, we get a lot of people who are coming out for the first time! That means not everyone knows each other yet so you don’t have to worry about crashing a group of people who have been friends for years. So if everyone is chatting up a storm when you get there, it’s just because they have quickly realized they have a lot in common. And even when some of the people know each other, they are still there to meet more people with similar interest.

Dog & Kid Friendly: Dog-Friendly for friendly dogs.  Dog must be on a leash… UNLESS… you let them loose in the dog park attached to the patio!

Kid-Friendly for friendly kids until 9pm.  After 9pm, the venue turns to 21+.

Who is HTXoutdoors?
If you have been looking for a group to explore Houston, do outdoor activities and meet people with similar interests, you have finally found it! We are Houstonians (new, original and somewhere in between) in our 20’s & 30’s and we love the outdoors! With a zest for adventure, we have day trips, weekend trips & international trips.  So if you have 2 weeks of vacation or “unlimited”…you can find new adventures to fit your schedule.
Come out and meet others interested in hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and more!  It’s a good chance to meet each other. It’s an even better chance to plan some adventures.

January 12, 2019 - meet at 8:00 am, from 8:30 to noon

Onion Creek

3106 White Oak Dr.

NEW MARKETS - Houston!  We have a new Market in Midtown and longtime Urban Harvest Market is at new digs (get it? :)) and is growing! Join us as we navigate a new route, to a new market, for an old favorite!

Grocery stores are so overrated! You drive to them. Carry your little bags in, and push around a cart. Maybe it's your lucky day and there are even some cookie samples left over in the bin…BORING! Instead of your typical shopping routine, why don't you pedal with us this Saturday for a fun weekend ride that will leave your taste buds and souls enriched and support our wonderful Houston Farmers Markets. Who knows what new food or drink you may discover!

First, we'll wake ourselves up with the delicious aroma of a leisurely Onion Creek coffee. After our caffeine kicks in, we'll cruise off to the markets to shop for fresh produce, sauces, jams, and delicious baked bread. This 12-15 mile ride lasts about three hours, so bring plenty of water and a backpack to carry all your goodies home!

Plan on sticking around after the ride to enjoy lunch at Onion Creek Cafe. They are a locally owned eatery with great food, atmosphere, brews and friends!

No bike? No worries!

BCO Hiking In Houston - Hike Terry Hershey Park Trails

January 12, 2019 – meet at 1:30 PM, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM

Meet at Cafe Express on Eldridge

1111 Eldridge Pkwy

Houston, TX 77077

Come and join us for a hike in Houston’s woods on the westside of town. Tennis shoes or hiking boots, both work equally well. The Terry Hershey trail is wooded, runs next to the Bayou, and you’ll think you’re on the AT (Appalachian Trail). Well, Houston’s version of the AT! On that note, remember to leave your bear spray at home, and instead pack your OFF! for our grizzly mosquitos.

This is a great casual stroll for both hiking newbies and enthusiasts to stretch your legs while meeting other people who enjoy getting outside.

Meet at 1:30 PM, and we will head out at about 2 PM. Feel free to hang out before the hike for a coffee and then after for dinner at Cafe Express. If it is cool out (below 75) dogs are welcome. If you do bring Rufus, don’t forget to bring his water bowl, leash and doggie bags, pretty please.

RSVP at https://bit.ly/2PKYLH2 For additional information, please call 713-524-3567 or e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com
