BCO Daylight Savings Ride

March 10, 2019 – 10 am - 11:45 am

Onion Creek

3106 White Oak Dr.

Houston, TX 77007

Springing the clock forward may rob you of your precious beauty sleep at first, but good news is it means longer and later rides are on the horizon. At least that’s how we like to “spin” it!

Pedal out the grogginess with us and cure that first Daylight Savings morning hangover. If that doesn’t wake you up, kick back with us afterwards as we enjoy the laid back atmosphere of Onion Creek Coffeehouse Bar & Lounge. Their great patio, hip brunch and strong mimosas alone will make you glad you left the bed!

Important Disclaimer: None of BCO’s rides are Critical Mass, style. We put safety first and leave the music and base at home. Don’t forget - protect those brains and wear a helmet. Life’s too short and drivers in Houston are, well not always paying attention... mostly all the time

RSVP https://bit.ly/2Uv6h7x . For additional information, please call 713-524-3567 or e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com.

BCO & HTXO present Houston Outdoor Live: Backpacking 101

March 13, 2019 - 6:45 PM – 8:00 PM

Whole Earth Provision Co., 2501 Post Oak Blvd, Houston, TX 77056

OR online at www.facebook.com/BayouCityOutdoors/

Don’t let inexperience stop you from taking the trail of a lifetime!

Backpacking is camping to the extreme. It enables you to take the path less traveled and find those once in a lifetime, National Geographic worthy vistas! It’s about finding your inner John Muir and taking only what you need. Backpacking is truly the ultimate adventure.

However, it’s an adventure where preparation could make or break your trip and your back. One of the biggest mistakes rookies make is over packing. Normally, we take pride in fitting an outstanding amount of objects into our bags, but for backpacking you have to find a balance. The longer your going to carry your pack, the more important this is. Your pack needs to be light enough to lug for miles and miles, while still having everything you need. As backpacking veterans, we’ve learned through experience how to do just that.

Join us in person for Houston Outdoor LIVE at Whole Earth Provision Co. for a packing demo and weigh-in session to demonstrate live the value of choosing your gear carefully. Can’t make it in person, check us out via Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/BayouCityOutdoors ). Both events run simultaneously and you can join the Q&A online or in person. However, you’ll want to join us in person if at all possible because we’re going all on the giveaway this evening compliments of Whole Earth Provision. Plus, we’ll have tasty refreshments provided by Karbach Brewing Co. & snacks too. The giveaway will be held at the end of the presentation.

Each week we take a topic, drill down as quick & deep as we can, to get you up to speed and out playing.  We’ll take Q&A after the presentation to help guide everyone into outdoor summer fun mastery.

What will we talk about?

We’re going to get through as many of these essentials as we can plus a Q&A at the end:

- Food and water needs and options

- Backcountry toilets and beyond

- Building up to carrying your pack

- How to pack your pack – lighter is better

- What you need in your first aid kit

- Filtering water with several different types of filters

- Staying safe around potential predators

- How, where and why to hang your personal effects and food

Bonus!

Join us and you'll also be able to download the free “#10Essentials for Backpacking” that evening - we promise to get you backpacking like the best! Everything you need to know, buy, skip, learn and carry in a single, awesome tip sheet.

Before you head out on the trail, join us for the evening chat. RSVP at https://bit.ly/2D9aiaT . For additional information, please call 713-524-3567 or e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com.

HTXO Volleyball Social
Friday,  March 15, 2019 - 6 PM – 9 PM
Sideout Volleybar
2623 Keene St, Houston, TX 77009

Are you looking for more than just another happy hour?
Our happy hour and volleyball event is a great introductory event to help you get active outdoors and to meet other people who are also looking for more than just happy hour. Plus having games to focus on, helps remove some of the awkward pauses that can happen the first time you meet someone.
And the best part… you’re meeting people who with similar interests.  Not just people interested in happy hour or volleyball. The group of people who attend this event are looking for new friends who want to explore Houston, try new things, and get outdoors!

No experience required for volleyball
We’ll spend a little time warming up and going through the rules.  Then we’ll play a few games… we can get as competitive as you all want, but mostly, we’re there to have fun.
We’re an inclusive group which means we still hit the ball to new players who may or may not be able to return it. It’s the only way people can get better!

Don’t want to play volleyball? No problem!
Plenty of people come out just to socialize on the large patio, play a game of cornhole or ping pong!  Plus, they have a full bar and food truck.

What to expect:
Getting there: You can’t see Sideout from the street near the railroad tracks. Once you turn, you’ll see a large dark parking lot.  Sideout is at the very end of the parking lot and fully lit when you get there.

Parking: FREE PARKING and there is plenty of it! The parking lot is overflow parking for While Oak Music Hall (WOMH). If there is an event at WOMH, you might see a parking attendee collecting money for parking.  Just tell them that you’re there for volleyball and you don’t have to pay to park.

How to find the group: The venue is not usually packed. When you walk in, turn to the right and follow the patio towards the building. We usually setup a table with an HTXoutdoors sign outside of the door that leads inside the building. If you get to the ping pong table or the dog park, just turn around and you’ll probably see us on the right. If you don’t see the HTXoutdoors sign, ask the bar tender.  They usually know where we are.  We usually play on Court 1 which is the court closest to the bar. :)

About the group you’re meeting: Because this event is open to everyone, we get a lot of people who are coming out for the first time! That means not everyone knows each other yet so you don’t have to worry about crashing a group of people who have been friends for years. So if everyone is chatting up a storm when you get there, it’s just because they have quickly realized they have a lot in common. And even when some of the people know each other, they are still there to meet more people with similar interest.

Dog & Kid Friendly: Dog-Friendly for friendly dogs.  Dog must be on a leash… UNLESS… you let them loose in the dog park attached to the patio!

Kid-Friendly for friendly kids until 9pm.  After 9pm, the venue turns to 21+.

Who is HTXoutdoors?
If you have been looking for a group to explore Houston, do outdoor activities and meet people with similar interests, you have finally found it! We are Houstonians (new, original and somewhere in between) in our 20’s & 30’s and we love the outdoors! With a zest for adventure, we have day trips, weekend trips & international trips.  So if you have 2 weeks of vacation or “unlimited”…you can find new adventures to fit your schedule.
Come out and meet others interested in hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and more!  It’s a good chance to meet each other. It’s an even better chance to plan some adventures.
