BCO & HTXO present A Walk in the Woods aka Hiking Houston

May 18, 2019

Meet at 9:30 AM, start 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Meet at Memorial Park Rugby Field Parking Lot

N Picnic Lane

Houston, TX 77007

Memorial Park, known as the Central Park of H-town, is an amazing 1,466-acre park (one of the largest in the county) right inside the loop! Trails are a mix of hard packed dirt, sand, trees and tree roots. It is wooded and wild in the middle of the city!

Join us for an hour and a half, quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and more adventuresome) trails our park has to offer. Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. You’ll be shocked at some of the "elevation" in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by. Remember to bring water as there are no water fountains along the trails.

Please, check the meeting location map on the Bayou City Outdoors site calendar before you head over to the park.  It’s a big park, and we try and leave on time!

RSVP at https://bit.ly/2HYY61h  for additional information, please e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com

BCO & HTXO Farmer’s Market Bike Ride

May 11, 2019 - meet at 8:00 am, from 8:30 to noon

Onion Creek

3106 White Oak Dr.

Houston, TX 77007

Grocery stores are so overrated! You drive to them, carrying your little bags in and pushing around a cart and wheels don’t even function properly half of the time. Maybe it's your lucky day and there are even some cookie samples left over in the bin…BORING!

Instead of your typical shopping routine, why don't you pedal with us on a Saturday morning for a fun weekend ride that will leave your taste buds and souls enriched and support our wonderful Houston Farmers Markets. Who knows what new food or drink you may discover!

Did you know many of our local restaurateurs' shop at our Houston Farmers Markets each week? There they find the best handcrafted cheeses, local produce, baked goods, and locally sourced organic meats, and you can too! Our mission is to pedal fast enough to beat them before they take all the goods, but slow enough to enjoy every revolution of the ride. We're experts at finding the perfect balance! We'll meander our way down side streets, trails and residential areas you never knew existed in the heart of Houston.

First, we'll wake ourselves up with the delicious aroma of a leisurely Onion Creek coffee. After our caffeine kicks in, we'll cruise off to the markets to shop for fresh produce, sauces, jams, and delicious baked bread. This 12-15 mile ride lasts about three hours, so bring plenty of water and a backpack to carry all your goodies home!

Plan on sticking around after the ride to enjoy lunch at Onion Creek Cafe. They are a locally owned eatery with great food, atmosphere and brews!

No bike? No worries! Houston has great rental options. Choose from:

·         B-Cycle Kiosk: Looking for the quickest rental option? B-Cycle allows you to rent via mobile app. There are many stations around town to pick up and drop off your rental. Check their map and pricing options information here: http://houston.bcycle.com.

·         BCO & HTXO Member Gear: If you are a member of Bayou City Outdoors and do not have a bike, we can loan you a bike for the ride; however, you MUST call the office 1 to 2 weeks in advance to arrange for the loaner bike.

Where to Meet:

Onion Creek, 3106 White Oak Dr., Houston, TX 77007. Please DO NOT park in the Onion Creek lot – there is parking on the surrounding streets, but look out for ‘no parking’ signs. Meet at 8:00 AM – Our ride will go from 8:30 AM to 12 PM.

This event is FREE for members and non-members alike. This event is open to older kids (teenagers) who have good bike handling skills.

Please note - we will be riding on some busy Houston streets.

RSVP at https://bit.ly/2FLeGOw  for additional information, please e-mail to info@bayoucityoutdoors.com

HTXO Happy Hour plus Volleyball
Friday, May 17, 2019 - 6 PM – 9 PM
Sideout Volleybar
2623 Keene St,
Houston, TX 77009

Are you looking for more than just another happy hour?

Our happy hour and volleyball event is a great introductory event to help you get active outdoors and to meet other people who are also looking for more than just happy hour. Plus having games to focus on, helps remove some of the awkward pauses that can happen the first time you meet someone.

And the best part… you’re meeting people who with similar interests. Not just people interested in happy hour or volleyball. The group of people who attend this event are looking for new friends who want to explore Houston, try new things, and get outdoors!

No experience required for volleyball
We’ll spend a little time warming up and going through the rules. Then we’ll play a few games… we can get as competitive as you all want, but mostly, we’re there to have fun.
We’re an inclusive group which means we still hit the ball to new players who may or may not be able to return it. It’s the only way people can get better!

Don’t want to play volleyball? No problem!
Plenty of people come out just to socialize on the large patio, play a game of cornhole or ping pong! Plus, they have a full bar and food truck.

About the group you’re meeting: Because this event is open to everyone, we get a lot of people who are coming out for the first time! That means not everyone knows each other yet so you don’t have to worry about crashing a group of people who have been friends for years. So if everyone is chatting up a storm when you get there, it’s just because they have quickly realized they have a lot in common. And even when some of the people know each other, they are still there to meet more people with similar interest.

Dog & Kid Friendly: Dog-Friendly for friendly dogs. Dog must be on a leash… UNLESS… you let them loose in the dog park attached to the patio!
Kid-Friendly for friendly kids until 9pm. After 9pm, the venue turns to 21+.

Who is HTXoutdoors?
If you have been looking for a group to explore Houston, do outdoor activities and meet people with similar interests, you have finally found it! We are Houstonians (new, original and somewhere in between) in our 20’s & 30’s and we love the outdoors! With a zest for adventure, we have day trips, weekend trips & international trips. So if you have 2 weeks of vacation or “unlimited”…you can find new adventures to fit your schedule.

Come out and meet others interested in hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and more! It’s a good chance to meet each other. It’s an even better chance to plan some adventures.

RSVP at https://htxoutdoors.com/events/happy-hour-plus-volleyball-15/ For additional info call 210-504-8333 or e-mail info@htxoutdoors.com
