Houston Arts and Media will be hosting its third Houston History Road Rally on Saturday, November 8 starting at 1 p.m.
The road rally will require teams of up to five people to solve clues, each of which will lead them to a historic Houston location inside Loop 610. They will then drive to the location and take a digital photograph which must include at least one team member. There will also be a “bonus person” clue which will provide teams with other scoring photo ops. There will be nice prizes for the winners and free food for all entrants following the two hour road rally.
The event begins and ends at the SPJST Hall, 1435 Beall St., itself a local Czech fraternal and cultural preservation society for over 110 years. Rules and more information are available at the HAM website. http://www.houstonartsandmedia.org/news.htm
The first Houston History Road Rally in fall 2007 was so successful that HAM made the concept into a semi-annual event. “We thought this was a terrific way to put a little bit of Houston history in front of a new audience, and still be something fun for folks who are already involved in the history community,” said HAM President, Mike Vance. “All you need are a couple of people with a broad knowledge of the city and a good navigator. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon with friends.”
The event is designed to be a fun way to draw attention to Houston’s history and raise awareness for ongoing HAM projects such as the HAM Slices Web History Videos, the Neighbor to Neighbor Oral History Project and its educational Houston trivia game called What’s Your HQ?.
Parties interested in supporting HAM’s efforts through donations or volunteerism should contact Houston Arts and Media via e-mail at info@houstonartsandmedia.org.
