TOTAL CLOSURE OF I-10/KATY FREEWAY AT SH-6 THIS WEEKEND

"West Houston Drivers Should Plan Ahead and Expect Delays When Traveling in This Area"

(Houston) This weekend, April 18-21, Texas Department of Transportation contractor, Williams Brothers will begin constructing the new SH-6 overpass bridge beginning the final construction activities for Contract C1 of the

I-10/Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program. This construction contract is scheduled to be complete August 2008 and the contractor is on target for early completion. The contractor has scheduled a total closure of the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound mainlanes at SH-6 and a total closure of SH-6 northbound and southbound at I-10/Katy Freeway beginning 10 PM, Friday, April 18 until 5 AM, Monday, April 21 for the placement of bridge beams.

I-10 eastbound and westbound traffic will detour to the respective I-10/Katy Freeway frontage roads and re-enter the mainlanes after SH-6. SH-6 northbound traffic will detour to the I-10 eastbound frontage road, U-turn at Eldridge to the I-10 westbound frontage road to SH-6. SH-6 southbound traffic will detour to the I-10 westbound frontage road, U-turn at Park Ten to the I-10 eastbound frontage road to SH-6. Law enforcement will be stationed at key locations to facilitate the movement of traffic in the area. However, due to the complexity of the work to be performed and the broad work area required, drivers are strongly encouraged to use alternate travel routes to avoid delays where feasible. A map illustrating these detours can be viewed using the link www.katyfreeway.org/SH6/SH6_0418.html.
