Books Alive! 3rd Annual Houston Public Library Children’s Book Celebration
Children are invited to enjoy all the fun and exciting activities scheduled for the Houston Public Library’s Books Alive! 3rd Annual Children’s Book Celebration. It’s going to be a full day of exciting performances and hands-on arts and crafts activities, featuring a special appearance by author Tom Angleberger, the 2011-2012 recipient of the Texas Bluebonnet Award for his book, “The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.” Storm Troopers and Darth Vader may invade the library throughout the day…be prepared to face the Dark Side! The Books Alive! Celebration will take place at the Central Library on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 12:15 PM to 3:30 PM for children of all ages. The Central Library is located at 500 McKinney, 77002, 832-393-1313. This is event is free and open to the public.

Alliance Fencing Academy Demonstration
Coach Andrey Geva has produced 23 USA National Champions and American Cup Winners. Enjoy an electronic fencing demonstration by Andrey and his students and imagine yourself in the midst of a light saber battle!

Crocodile Encounter
Like Yoda, crocodiles live in the swamp. Today you can meet these and other reptiles face to face!
About Children’s Book Author Tom Angleberger
Angleberger is the artist-turned-writer of the bestselling children's book “The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.” Angleberger's most recent occupation was as a columnist for the Roanoke Times in Roanoke, Virginia. Virginia. He began work on his first book while in middle school. Angleberger has written several books, including “Fake Mustache,” “Horton Halfpott: or, The Fiendish Mystery of Smugwick Manor; or, The Loosening of M'Lady Luggertuck's Corset,” and the three Origami Yoda books. He is married to author-illustrator Cece Bell and lives Virginia.
