Family fun is once again landing at William P. Hobby Airport, as Hobby Fest 2012 gets underway on Saturday, April 21. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and features everything from up-close viewing of vintage aircraft to games and face painting for the children.
“HobbyFest is the link that connects businesses with community area schools, classrooms and students,” said Danny R Perkins, Chair, Greater Hobby Area Chamber of Commerce. “Through programs like HobbyFest, we will continue to create business-education partnerships that will transform our schools and develop the 21st century workforce.”
Admission is FREE with five (5) new pens or pencils donated to The Pencil Project. For more information on the program, visit www.thepencilproject.com. A cook-off competition will also be held to determine who has the best chicken or brisket. Individuals can enter this competition with a $200 entry fee.
As part of this year’s event, the Allen T. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Committee invited participants to submit an abstract or paper, covering aviation related topics such as management, marketing, geography, operations, flight planning or a host of others. Judges reviewed those entries and awarded scholarship assistance to five contestants: Alejandro Muller-Karger, Edgar Moreno-Rodriguez, Micah Harper, Reginald Richardson and Jonathan Barrientos.
“Creating opportunities through HobbyFest for our young people will help us build stronger communities,” Perkins said. “We believe it is our responsibility as business leaders to invest in our youth, encouraging them to focus on education to build a promising future."
A raffle will also be held featuring these and additional items:
Six (6) Roundtrip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines
Two (2) Roundtrip airline tickets from jetBlue Airways
Four (4) Tickets to Houston Astros game
