Preservation specialists have stated that the Church of the Annunciation, standing as the last remaining work of Nicholas Clayton, is the most important architectural historical building in Houston.

We are starting our sesquicentennial celebration, in recognition of the importance of our building, with an architectural symposium: Clayton's Legacy - Houston's Jewel, September 6-9, 2018. Featured speakers include architectural historian and lecturer from Rice University, Stephen Fox, as well as renowned architect and professor of architecture from the University of Notre Dame, Duncan Stroik.

Registered architects:  Two of the lectures qualify for 1 CEPH (HSW) credit hour each; Stephen Fox’s lecture “Works of Nicholas Clayton in Houston and the Importance of the Church of the Annunciation” and Duncan Stroik’s lecture, “Sacred Architecture in the World Today”.  You will receive the certificate of completion after the lecture series.

This four-day event includes a tour of Clayton's work in Galveston, a downtown Houston historical tour led by Jim Parsons from Preservation Houston, expert lectures, fine dining, plus a concert and reception.  Participants can choose to purchase the full package for all the activities, only some of the activities or perhaps, just one.

Sponsors to this commemorative event include Ziegler-Cooper.

BCO - A Walk in the Woods Aka Hiking Houston

    September 9, 2018

Meet at 8:15 AM, start 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM

    Memorial Park

    N Picnic Lane

    Houston, TX 77007

Memorial Park, known as the Central Park of H-town, is an amazing 1466-acre park (one of the largest in the county) right inside the loop! Trails are a mix of hard packed dirt, sand, trees and tree roots. It is wooded and wild in the middle of the city!

Join us for an hour and a half quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and more adventuresome) trails our park has to offer.  Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. And, there’s some "elevation" in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by. Remember to bring water; there are no water fountains along the trails.

Please, check the meeting location map on the Bayou City Outdoors site calendar before you head over to the park.  It’s a big park, and we try and leave on time!
