BCO - A Walk in the Woods
aka Hiking Terry Hershey Park Woods
    June 11, 2016
Meet at 7:45, start 8 AM to 9:30 AM
    Cafe Express
    1111 Eldridge Pkwy 77077

The Terry Hershey Park Hike & Bike Trail provides more than 10 miles of trail from Barker Dam (near State Highway 6) to Texas Beltway 8 and the Sam Houston Tollway. The paved walkways are located in the cleared stretch of the park, free of trees, and are about 10 feet in width. The dirt trails, however, cut through the densely grown forest growing along the bayou, and are not easily accessible.
Join us for an hour and a half quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and more adventuresome) trails our park has to offer.  Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root.  And, there’s some "elevation" in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by. Remember to bring water; there are no water fountains along the trails.

After the hike, join a group of us for brunch and coffee.

Look for the group gathered at Cafe Express.  There will be white and green Bayou City Outdoor signs with the group and on the vehicle.

You are invited to a free, city-wide celebration! Buffalo Bayou Partnership will be hosting this grand opening event for the Sabine-to-Bagby Promenade, a new 23-acre, $15 million waterfront park in downtown Houston. The park runs along the banks of Buffalo Bayou and features jogging and biking trails, lush landscaping and the bayou's first pedestrian bridge.
The centerpiece of the grand opening event will be the illumination of the spectacular blue and white lights. The lights, designed by artist Stephen Korns (New York) and international lighting firm L'Observatoire (New York), will brighten the bridges, trails and water of the park with a blue color scheme changing in tandem with the phases of the moon.
Another highlight of the event will be a Floating Cinema where three rarely seen films all relating to nature will be projected onto a floating screen traversing the bayou waters. Curators Diane Shamash, Executive Director of Minetta Brook from New York and Andrea Grover, Director of the Aurora Picture Show in Houston selected the films to be shown to include: Two Rivers by Peter Hutton, Ten Skies by James Benning, and Sunset by Andy Warhol.
The grand opening will also feature live music, food and beverages along the hike and bike trails, various strolling entertainers and boat rides. Fireworks will follow the lighting ceremony halfway during the evening.
When: Saturday, June 10th, 7 p.m. to Midnight
Where: Sabine-to-Bagby Promenade, Buffalo Bayou Walk. The festivities will stretch along the banks of Buffalo Bayou from Sabine to I-45, between Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive.
Parking: Free parking is available at City Lot H (next to Fonde Recreational Center at Sabine Street and Memorial Drive) and Lot C (Memorial Drive and Houston Street). Paid parking is available at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts at Bagby and Walker.
