When the historic Teas Nursery decided to close their business in December 2009, Bellaire residents, Jerry and Maury Rubenstein, through the Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation, seized the opportunity to save a piece of Bellaire and Houston history by acquiring the 5-acre site with the vision of maintaining a green space in the heart of the city, and to honor their mother Evelyn. The land was donated by the Rubenstein Foundation to the City of Bellaire on the condition that it would be developed as a park, a beautiful, safe and quiet respite for its surrounding communities.
Evelyn's Park is about honoring the past, when people walked or biked to the park and kicked a ball or had a picnic. Evelyn's park is also about recapturing community by having a central gathering place with state of the art facilities for recreation and events, where neighbor meets neighbor. It looks to the future by restoring green space, improving the environment, and planting native trees and flora.
Evelyn's Park open space design will provide a rich outdoor experience for all Houston citizens with connectivity to existing bike and pedestrian trails within a 5-mile radius. Research has shown that city parks and open space improve our physical and psychological health, strengthen our communities and make our cities and neighborhoods more attractive places to live and work. The park represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to reclaim a 5 acre tract of land inside the loop for public use which will benefit current and future visitors.
About Evelyn's Park Conservancy:

Bayou City Outdoors Farmer’s Market Bike Ride
Onion Creek
3106 White Oak Dr, Houston, TX 77007
Life in H-town is constantly evolving, in a large part thanks to our local Farmers Markets. Did you know many of our local resturantures shop at the Farmers Markets each week for handcrafted cheeses, local produce, baked goods and locally sourced organic meats? Our job is to pedal fast enough to beat them to the market but slow enough to enjoy the ride
). No problem for us! We’ll use the side streets, trails, and residential areas in the heart of Houston to meander our way around.
This is a very social ride (we chat a lot) and all levels of riders are welcome. We will start the morning off with a leisurely coffee at Onion Creek and then cruise through 2-3 markets to shop for fresh produce, sauces, jams, and bread. This is a 12-15 mile ride that lasts about three hours so bring plenty of water and a backpack to carry your goodies!
Plan on sticking around after the ride to enjoy lunch at Onion Creek Cafe. They are a locally owned eatry and one of the first of it’s kind. Good food, good brews and good friends!
No bike? No worries! You can pick up a bike from the B-Cycle kiosk around town:
http://houston.bcycle.com/home.aspx. Or go to one of your local bikes shops like: West End Bicycles @ www.westendbikes.com, Bike Barn -@http://bikebarn.com/, Planetary Cycles @ http://planetarycycles.com/, or Houston Cycling Centres @ http://northwestcyclery.com/.
If you are a member of Bayou City Outdoors and do not have a bike, we can loan you a bike for the ride. But you MUST call the office 1 to 2 weeks in advance to arrange for the loaner bike.
Meet at Onion Creek, 3106 White Oak Dr, Houston, TX 77007. Please DO NOT park in the Onion Creek lot – there is parking on the surrounding streets but look out for ‘no parking’ signs. Meet at 8:00AM – leave at 8:30AM to Noon. Free for members and non-members alike.

You caneven take them for a quick run to see if they are a perfect match for yourfamily. You don't want to miss this!
