1001 McKinneyFormerly: | 921 Main | Formerly: | Texas American Bank Building | Formerly: | Southern National Bank Building | Formerly: | City National Bank Building | It's amazing that such a massive building becomes so easily lost in Houston's downtown. Barely visible in any skyline shot, the City National Bank Building boasts broad shoulders and vertical appeal. Though the construction is from the wrong era, it is still correct to say it was inspired by the Art Deco movement. After the second World War, City National Bank and First National Bank merged, making this new building a necessity. Since much of America's recent construction effort was serving the war, he had to look further back to a happier time for inspiration. Today, the building is in danger of being completely overshadowed by the new 1000 Main building. The people who will work in that new tower will get a chance to appreciate a structure out of the past, and out of sync with its own time. Quick Facts
