Noticed that the spot at 2626 White Oak has filed for a TABC permit. The name on the application is "The Ready Room", under the ownership of 2626 White Oak LLC, which is shown to be owned by Ken Bridge, of Delicious Concepts.

Back in my young and skinny days, it was The Ready Room (or perhaps Reddy Room), with Milton Hopkins as the house band on Fridays (or maybe Saturdays, or both) (back then we were not as... shall we say... restrained in our habits, so particulars get a little vague).  Good ol' roots Houston R & B, and his backup singers could really belt it out.

Since the previous incarnation had a level of cleanliness that rivaled Lola's (the bar on Fairview, not the restaurant on 11th), eating wasn't something you did there.  It'll be interesting to see what turns out this time.

Yes, opening that many concepts in a year is a strain on resources, especially since, given how long it takes to get a restaurant permitted, there is a lot of cash drain before you see your first dollar in revenue. But putting your nanny and a bunch of family members on corp payroll, especially when the company is almost certainly cash flow negative, is super shady.

Sounds like they had a lot of OPM (other people's money), but not quite enough.

Based on their typical reservation availability, Bernadine's is almost certainly making money, and Hunky Dory is probably at least breaking even. Canard seemed to be doing pretty brisk business on the times I had been there, but probably not enough to cover the cost of the entire leased space (operationally, Canard/FC was basically a single space). I'm not a frequent enough visitor to JGB to judge.

There is a little crepe restaurant on W18th and Yale next door to the super hero costume shop.  Pretty basic menu of sweet and savory crepes. But with all the high end stuff piling into the neighborhood, something new that is small, quick, cheap and easy is nice to have.

Presidio is opening this weekend.  They had a few soft opening dinners this week.

There is a new little crepe restaurant over by the comic/superhero store on Yale and 18th.  It is the same guy who was selling Moroccan oils in the same spot.

The wife and I tried La Fresca Pizza on 20th for lunch last week and it was very good.  They make the pizzas across a counter from you, kind of like making your sandwich at Subway, so you can pick exactly and how much of each ingredient that you want.  Good crust, fresh toppings, we'll definitely go back.

Another Dallas chain coming to Houston.  What is notable is the owner's intention to harvest catfish out of Buffalo Bayou.  He frames it as a #MAGA struggle against government regulators.  But I think that the greater concern should be the fact that Buffalo Bayou has some of the highest bacteria counts of any waterway in Texas.

The tentatively named "The Ready Room" has had a TABC permit for 2626 White Oak Drive for at least two or three years.

Spoke to someone who works at Ritual and they said they plan on returning it to a live music venue. Will have live jazz and high end cocktails. Planning on being open in a couple months...

Austin gelato shop is opening already next door to the soon to be Hughie's 2.0.  The thought of dinner at Hughie's with a cup of gelato after is quite pleasant.

Completely agree. Can't wait.

Warehouse Bar and Chill closed some months ago. According to Houstonia, Gary Mosely and the Creek Group purchased it.

Cactus Cove: This forthcoming bar and grill, tentatively named Cactus Cove, is one of several new concepts on the horizon from the Creek Group (Onion Creek Cafe, Cedar Creek Cafe, Lowbrow). Details are hush-hush for now, but look for the eatery to take over the former Warehouse Bar & Chill in the Timbergrove neighborhood.

Interesting.  Gary has the magic touch so I'm sure it will be a success.  The WB&C people didn't have a clue to what they were doing.

Another Heights restaurant closure coming up!

Shade and Glass Wall are closed.  Both are being retooled.  Shade will be "Alice Blue", a more trendy venue.  Glass Wall will try a more casual concept.

Something has got to give at Treadsack.  Graham Laborde jumped ship.  Bernadine's was his creation and he got his dad involved in propping up the restaurant when everything hit the fan.  Richard Knight left Hunky Dory and it has not been the same.  I doubt that those concepts can survive too long without big talent in the kitchen.  And no big name chef is going to come on board until the company emerges from bankruptcy.  A bit of a catch 22.

Looks like those restaurants will likely close.

This one at the end of the month.

An additional closure is the Taquito Rico on Main and Pecore also at the end of this month.  The building owner has other plans for that lot.  The business owner will have a taco truck in the same area at some point.

Hunky Dory and Bernadine's are owned by a separate entity from Down House and the rest of the currently surviving Treadsack establishments.  They could now convert Hunky Dory and Bernadine's bankruptcy into a Chap 7 from an 11 and lighten their load by a lot.  It is sad because but for the mismanagement these restaurants should have been able to be around for a long time.  At least they leave behind some nice architecture for someone else to make a go at it.
