hbcu
Houston radio sucks on the urban level.....102.1 has no kind of competiton whatsoever and that generic brand of R&B they're playing won't hold a candle to urban R&B's in the south....to them, it's a crime to play something that's not "mainstream".....Maze made more than Happy Feelings but they over play that song...the best time to listen is early in the morning when commercials are to a minimum..as for Tom Joyner...they can have himHouston had better competition in the 80s with Love 94.1 and 98.5 in the 90s....as for 97.9...I could care less..it's not what it used to be...why do smaller cities have more choices than Houston? editor
why do smaller cities have more choices than Houston?Because smaller cities tend to have more station owners than large cities. If you're a big radio company with eight signals in a big city you tend not to compete against yourself. There are notable exceptions (WCBS and WINS both doing all news in New York, both owned by CBS Radio), but unless both stations of the same format are both bringing in truckloads of cash it makes sense to flip the weaker one to a new format in the market, or to a format that weakens your competition.I don't approve of it, but it's the reality. JFive
KBXX owner Radio One let alot of their air talent go recently. I think it was for "cost cutting". It seems like the KBXX veterans were the first to go (except the morning show).
hbcu
they can go too....early morning syndicated shows will be coming as Ricky Smiley's show will be coming soon...that has killed local on-air radio in Dallas as that made once proud Skip Murphy move to afternoons
