I'd have to agree, I much rather listen to news then listen to someone droning on about their view of the world and not really giving anyone a real chance to seriously talk about the issues. Instead he just taunts them if they say something he can make some wisecracks on.

Please, give me the news!

Well, a couple of things...Chris Baker is an arrogant host. No matter what the caller says, he just replies with "uh-huh, mmmm, ok, riggght.." and then goes on with his point of view. Waste of time.

As for 97.9, if people who listen to rap only knew how much this stations playlist sucks compared to similar rap stations in other markets (LA, Vegas, Atlanta, New York) they would boycott this station...

Glen

Vegas' and Atlanta's radio stations don't got nothing on 97.9. I've listened to them and 97.9 is better, my just a margin.

88.7FM Houston Public Radio

Non-profit educational based station with NPR/PRI programming. Morning and evening news coverage and classical music filling the inbetween. The weekends are loaded with programming like Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk, All Things Considered (news), Marketplace and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.

Personally I would prefer that they had more music and less of the NPR programming, especially after the demise of KRTS. Prairie Home Companion sets my teeth on edge.

If you lobby for that make sure they dont axe my Car Talk  ;)

I'd probably have to move.

I've been tempted to call the Car Talk guys a couple of times becuase my car has a few mystery issues that no mechanic has ever been able to pinpoint the root cause of and completely fix.

It's a shame KRTS is no more but I really do like the fact that our local NPR station has what I consider a nice balance of classical music and NPR's programming. In some cities the NPR stations run only news, talk, and other programs with no music. The majority of their time is dedicated to the music, with the exception of weekday news slots in the mornings and late afternoons/early evenings, and some time on the weekends when they run other shows.

Vegas' stations KLUC, Wild and Hot have 8/10 of the same songs. If I listen to Vegas, I'd rather listen to their community station, KCEP Power 88, or adult urban V108. A better candidate for The Box out of Atlanta would not be so much its sister station, Hot 107.9 WHTA, but WVEE V103. V103 sure blows any other Urban in Atlanta away because it is a heritage radio station (28 years). Cox radio's 97.1 Jamz and 95.5 The Beat suck big time; they need to be off the air. But I do like Kiss 104.1 though as well.

looks like that KLOL format change didn't do squat for ratings.

It's still too early to tell.

Part of those ratings still included the rock format.

There are a lot of listeners shuffling around right now with 92.1 and 101 starting recently, and it will take a little more time to see what effect it will have.

Give it a couple more books.

K-I-L-T

Been a long time since they've called it "kilt"

I don't think I've heard that since before they went country.

hmm how long does it take for rankings to hit?

97.5(POWER) will change to Rock on Feb 1st...

Then it will move to 103.7 when the new tower is setup in La Porte..

after that 103.7(KSTAR) will move to 99.7....

Soon after that they will have a new format on 97.5 or just go back to Adult Urban I am not sure..
