houstonmacbro
I believe that others have a right to believe --or NOT believe-- whatever they want. That doesn't mean I can't find it odd, strange, or just plain weird.
Resa00
Living up North (some might consider it no-mans-land), I've passed this building durring all stages of it's construction when going to and from Houston. My reaction at first was "What's this?" and it stayed fairly constant by what was being done. Now that it's done (and been so for a while now) I've been trying to figure out, just what exactly is La Luz Del Mundo (honstly Thursday was the first day I was able to read the name on the building)??? Can't stop in and ask, most places close at 6pm or so and it was usually MUCH later than that when I'd drive by. I'm glad I found this page and found out that it is indead a church. As far the the architecture goes (since this is HAIF), I find it very facinating especially now knowing that it's a Spanish church, Greek I would have figured. It deffently makes you take notice...especially considering the surrounding area. At some point and time I'd like to stop and take a better look at it because of it's interesting architecture. I get the Greek theme coming from a mainly Hispanic church, but is there anything else?
cottonmather0
I love this church! Glad to find a thread about it here, but how come no one has mentioned what it looks like at night? The whole building glows different colors.

houstonmacbro
As I mentioned once before (I think in this thread) that the design is hideous.
Subdude
Really? I think it is kind of funny. Not that it's great Greek Revival or anything, but it sort of fun and exuberant. Better this than the trying-to-hard-to-be-respectable Catholic cathedral, which works so hard at being tasteful and fitting into its surroundings that it becomes anonymous. Every time I've passed La Luz del Mundo I chuckle and think, "Well, good for them!"
Vertigo58
One day we will check it out. I just want to see what the interior is like. I never gave it a thought of what kind of faith this place caters to. I assumed it was non-denominational. Still get that Ceasar's Palace Casino thought as I pass by. Maybe there are people dressed in Roman attire milling about inside. Cool

cisco
Wouldn't that be something. Don't forget the laurel leaves in the hair. The idea of leaves, and probably you might add, smoke and inhale brings a "higher" satisfaction to your brain which for you is a sort of "elevated divine state". I think that your participation in this forum brings it to a "higher level".Cisco
benjamin
First of all, our church is not founded by any preacher, it was founded by Jesuschrist and we are the restoration of the primitive church, second, the church has capacity for 4,000 maybe more, and it did not cost $20,000,000. Not even close. Feel free to email whenever you would like at Mendozagray@yahoo.com, I would be more than delighted to answer your questions, any questions.First of all, our church is not founded by any preacher, it was founded by Jesuschrist and we are the restoration of the primitive church, second, the church has capacity for 4,000 maybe more, and it did not cost $20,000,000. Resa00
I am a member the same church in San Francisco and have only seen pictures of the building in Houston, but am curious about why it would be interesting architectually? I get the Greek theme coming from a mainly Hispanic church, but is there anything else?Honstly not really...other than an apperance of opulance (which kinda falls in with the Greek theme) in an area that I wouldn't have asociated with opulance. The main thing that I would really like to check out is the detail in the carvings/painting/ect. and how it all flows together. I may not be an architect, but it doesn't take one to apricate a building, which is what I'd like to do with this church.
Robert W. Boyd
I took some photos of this amazing and unusual church complex. That's on the south side of the church, in front of the small(er) building in the southeast corner. The front of the main building. You can see more on my blog.
LTAWACS
It's the squiggly thing on the dome that makes it work for me. Kinda reminds me of romulan architecture.
