TonyM
Anyone know what's going on at the corner of Baldwin & Pierce, right across from Komodo? There's an existing building with a "for lease" sign in front, I believe it's offices. 1916 Baldwin St, currently owned by SMBHC LLC: http://hcad.org/reco...^&bld=1&tab= I'm wondering what's going on with the empty tracts around that structure. For awhile the valets at Cyclone's were using them for parking but now the lots are all torn up, some trenching from the north corner of the lot south east to Baldwin (sidewalk is gone, actually, almost fell in the trench one night walking my dogs before they had fencing up). 1910 Baldwin (SMBHC LLC): http://hcad.org/reco...^&bld=1&tab= 1914 Baldwin (SMBHC LLC): http://hcad.org/reco...^&bld=1&tab= 211 Pierce (SMBHC LLC): http://hcad.org/reco...^&bld=1&tab=2 The empty tracts all have hearings coming up next month. Just wondering if anyone knows what the plans are for these lots. SMBology (looks like an IT firm) is the only tenant I can find for 1916 Baldwin. Justin Singer is the founder and president, he's also listed as the director for SMBHC LLC so he owns all the land. http://www.smbology.com/About%20Us/Leadership%20Team

kbates2
That mixed with the work they are doing to the EDGE makes walking down there fun. Almost as fun as trying to drive down it.

IntheKnowHouston
After Oakmont closed a few years ago 1916 Baldwin St, a bar & grill named Amahle opened in its place. The bar's owner was indicted last year by the Justice Department for fraud in an alleged $3.7M Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) scam. Also, two months ago, Amahle was locked out by landlord, Ayman Jarah. Jarah alleged the bar failed to pay rent for two months. Amahle closed its doors recently. https://abc13.com/ppp-fraud-houston-covid-funds-scam-business-owners-bought-luxury-cars-with-loans-ladonna-wiggins/10384154/ https://abc13.com/amahle-bar-and-lounge-houston-unpaid-rent-ladonna-wiggins-ppp-fraud/12121207/ Edited October 15, 2022 by IntheKnowHouston
IntheKnowHouston
Replacing Amahle at 1916 Baldwin is a new nightlife concept from Houston's Cle Group. Recent entity filings and alcohol permits indicate the concept will likely go by the name Los Cabos. This will probably be a club. Cle Group operate several nightlife and dining establishments in Houston including Spire, Cle, Bisou, Kiss, and Heart.

They seem to have closed around the same time.

Cle Group operate several nightlife and dining establishments in Houston including Spire, Cle, Bisou, Kiss, and Heart. The name of Cle Group's next Midtown bar is Palapas. I initially thought the name was Los Cabos. However, a few weeks ago, a new Instagram account linked to Cle Group began posting updates. According to the Instagram bio, this is a collaborative concept from Cle Group and another group. The other group is also behind Kiss, a restaurant with locations in Houston and Dallas. Kiss is a joint venture with Cle Group. Palapas is taking over the former space of bar & grill and lounge concept Amahle. It's the three-story building at 1916 Baldwin St. Like Amahle, Palapas will be a lounge and hookah bar. It will also have a bar & grill component. Although the address isn't included in any of the posts or the bio, based off the details provided on Instagram, this is going to be located at 1916 Baldwin. Here is the description from Palapas' Instagram bio: 3 levels of exploration Sexy interiors + beautiful patio spaces + exotic plants Flavorful dishes + tropical cocktails Specialty hookahs + live music & DJs Prior to Amahle, the site was renovated for Oakmont. Oakmont was a bar from Ayman Jarrah. Jarrah owns the 1916 Baldwin property. He is also the owner of (or maybe was, I don't know the current status) Midtown bar 360 Midtown at 2400 Brazos (it was previously known as Gaslamp). https://www.instagram.com/palapashtx http://palapashtx.com Edited November 28, 2022 by IntheKnowHouston
