Does anyone know if/where Micro Center would be relocating if this is true?

From Swamplot:

http://swamplot.com/did-micro-center-just-sell-its-houston-location-to-amegy-bank/2014-02-25/

The self-proclaimed “industry insider” behind a new office-space rumor website tells Swamplot that it’s “well-known . . . amongst the tenant/landlord representative crowd” that Amegy Bank has purchased the 4.13-acre site at 1717 West Loop South just north of San Felipe that’s currently home to Houston’s only Micro Center store. The owner and would-be seller of the property, according to county tax records, is the Ohio-based parent company of the 47,800-sq.-ft. computer and electronics store, which has been operating in that location since 1994. There is only one other Micro Center location in Texas.

“The property, which is just down the street from [Amegy Bank's] current office at Five Post Oak Park,” reports the rumor site, “is the supposed site for Amegy to build their own 10-12 story office tower. Rumblings suggest that this move is the result of a lease renewal disagreement between Amegy and their current landlord Shorenstein.”

If the rumor is true, would the computer retailer be looking for another Houston location, or just close up shop here? Swamplot has contacted both Micro Center and Amegy Bank for comment. We’ll add an update if we hear anything back.

Cars will fly and then the Earth will die. I'm not sure when, but it will happen.

When I lived in California, there were always news teasers about different seismologists predicting that California would have a major earthquake "soon". Then if you watched actual story, they'd explain he meant geologically soon, meaning sometime within the next 200 years. Edited by livincinco

If the store or chain is doing badly, it will probably close for good, sadly. It is in a high-value part of town. While unlikely, I wonder how plausible is it if they knocked down the old Foley's at Northwest Mall to build a smaller Micro Center store, using the reduced footprint as much-needed extra parking?

Amegy has been in the market for awhile although I assumed they were looking at one of the westcreek sites. They'll team up with one of the big name office developers. I would be a little shocked if they only built 10-12 stories, though.

Exactly. It wouldn't make sense for them to build their own building, when there a tower looking for a tenant about to be built in in Westcreek.

This does appear to be in that general vicinity, but I cant figure out where around there they would develop.

You've got the CVS on the SW corner and all of the buildings on the NE and NW corners of Montrose. I can't think of the name of the developer who has developed all of those 8-10 story buildings around there. Maybe Hansen. The same people who are constructing the new building just west of Yoakum on Richmond.

St. Thomas owns pretty much everything else to Montrose and Richmond, unless its the tract east of the Richmont apartments,(Menil holdings),  or the SE corner of Montrose and Richmond where the Chase Bank is located. I guess it could be the property on the east side of Yoakum between the CVS and the new building going up there.
