But they are likely going to just add wings to the sides to increase capacity. In some ways, a brand new church would have been cool. Expensive, but cool. Saving the old church is not a bad options though. Once things are finalized i will. Do they own any of the adjoining lots in that neighborhood. Its interesting that from Annunciation south to ST. You should see the development of Annunciaton Church right there (not just the school). They are planning on starting their expansion plans this winter. Adding a large dome, busting out the sides, making 12 MM+ of upgrades, it will be unreal. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church could be the next seat of the bishop in a redesigned archdiocese of America. Urbannizer Posted July 7, 2016 Author Share Posted July 7, 2016 Greek Orthodox school, church in Montrose undergoing millions in upgrades Annunciation Orthodox School and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, two longstanding Montrose institutions known for hosting Houston Greek Festival, are undergoing millions of dollars in renovations. Annunciation Orthodox School, which has roughly 694 students from pre-K through 8th grade, is funneling $18 million into building a new, three-story elementary school building, a new dining hall, more green space and an expanded pavilion, according to a fundraising page on the school's website. A $14.08 million building permit for the three-story building listed Houston-based D.E. Harvey Builders as the general contractor. San Fransisco-based Gensler designed the facility, according to the school's website. The school is financing the renovations via a capital campaign, but it's unclear how much it's raised so far. The capital campaign's fundraising site describes the above renovations as phase one of a broader master-planned makeover, but details on additional phases weren't available. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, meanwhile, is in the midst of a $12.5 million renovation of its own. The church will add a large, golden dome to its existing structure, as well as increase its seating capacity to roughly 800 congregants, add an elevator, improve sidewalks and walkways and more,according to its website. Forney Construction is the project manager, and New York-based PJAR Architects is designing the renovations, according to a lettersent this month from the church's president. H-Town Man Posted July 24, 2017 Share Posted July 24, 2017 I like that they are bringing it to a Greek Cross format, which is more historically appropriate for the Orthodox faith than the Latin cross which the sanctuary has had up until now. I belong to a different denomination, but one which also has a deep architectural and liturgical tradition and one which has recently seen revivals of that tradition following a 20th century watering down of everything. When I saw them fly up the dome on of the workers told me they would start tearing down the middle portion in order to make it bigger.
