If one in X Americans get lung cancer at some point in their lives, it doesn't (at least usually) strike healthy people, it will be a smoker or someone with some aggravated lung situation. And why "statistics" cab ne called "lies, lies, and damn lies"......It is very likely that the odds of being a crime victim (however defined) are near zero in huge swaths of the city. It is also very likely that in certain areas the odds may approach 1:1.the "average" for the city is essentially meaningless for the individual....... Ideally, its aim should be relevance rather than mere statistical purposes. The kind of reporting we see mostly only serves to perpetuate fear and distort the truth.
