One has to wonder whether the city would be willing to offer additional incentives to build a more traditional grocery store downtown.  I lived in DC for awhile, near Mt. Vernon Triangle, and that area revitalized with the addition of a Safeway located at the base of the City Vista apartments--like Downtown Houston, it was also previously filled with parking lots in an area nearby a sports complex (the Verizon Center). A proper HEB or Kroger would address a significant concern for those looking to move to Downtown.

I agree with you on this one. Anchoring something like an HEB, Whole Foods, or Kroger in a mix-used development with maybe the grocer on ground floor and second floor and mixed use on top would be essential to the life of downtown. However the need has to be created first. This is why Macy's and other retail stores left because there wasn't a need for it at the moment. While city planners should be more proactive in anticipating needs such as a large Grocer Anchor the need simply isn't there yet sadly. Probably wont see a development like that for a coupe more years. There are still plenty of parking lots to fill though ;) so lets just sit back and watch everything rise for the time being.

^ It looks like 2 story units are some what of a trend now. If you look at the the Finger's Ballpark(500 Crawford) they have some sections that look like they are 8 stories tall as well as Block 334 looks like it has an extra set of windows crammed in some parts which might be enough room for a small loft space(although who knows how current that rendering is). I'm purely speculating however.

Rendering map for reference:

Why is this still listed as 6 stories when there are clearly 7 in the renderings?

It looks like 6 floors throughout and certain areas having an extra something. It might be too hide ACs, maintenance equipment, etc.

But clearly these extra parts have no balconies, while the 3rd to 6 floors do.

Maybe it's a double floor with a loft or something.

Just in typical fashion there's some moron driver going the wrong way on a one way downtown. Very accurate rendering.

In a non-US market Audi, no less... (***sigh...***) tourists...   <_<

Far out. Trammell Crow came to Houston to build, not draw renderings and shrug shoulders. If this and the Block 98 tower are both going forward as has been predicted on here, it will be transformative for this already-transformed neighborhood.

They came to chew bubble gum and build buildings, and they're all out of bubble gum.
