About 15-17 years ago I was on jury duty.......While waiting I was looking out the window and saw a rooftop apartment/penthouse below and to the west of the court house.....IIRC it had a main house with a round (livingroom?) attached...................I had looked this up before and seems it belonged at one time to a well know and well to do family.........IIRC I was able to find it on google maps and MSN (now Bing) maps......Now I can not........Was the building razed?......Does anyone know the name of this building and or this family?

My computer crashed back last summer in a thunderstorm so I lost all my files and picture folders

If anyone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it..........

TIA

Yep, it's the Hogg Palace. There is a grass lawn on top, around the penthouse. I remember reading that the bottom floor was once a car dealership showroom.

I was told that Ford automobiles (probably Model Ts) where shipped "knocked-down" and assembled on the first floor of the Hogg Building.

Thats the first thing that came to mind. The Hogg Lofts/ Dealership penthouse. I've seen pictures of it, somewhere. Was beautiful, Spanish style. Yes, still there, was admiring it just the other day.

In Will Hogg's 1929 City Planning Commission Report, Hare & Hare's advise on adopting a city plan to include zoning & parks, ..."the people of Houston and their officials will have to decide whether they are building a great city or merely a great population."

I'm still looking for the actual penthouse photos I saw once.

...this article, page 3, briefly mentions the "18-room bungalow" in the sky.
