kylejack
A rendering of the Cigar Loft at 3109 Main St from Facebook: I really want to like this but I don't think this will be the type of cigar lounge I was hoping for. One big drawback for cigar lounges in Houston is that they can't sell alcohol. Downing Street was the last grandfathered cigar bar to close. terra002
I saw some kind of variance in front of the parking garage for 24 hour fitness this morning. It said something about removing excess parking spaces.
ahkelly
Passed this the other day while driving down W. Gray. Escape Hunt Houston. Building out next to Oporto in the Post Midtown property. http://houston.escapehunt.com/
terra002
Im sure someone is excited about this. It does add a little diversity to the place though.
Urbannizer
http://www.chron.com/business/real-estate/article/Randalls-to-expand-Midtown-store-7378514.php?cmpid=twitter-desktop The Randalls grocery chain wants to expand its 14-year-old store in Midtown and is seeking variances from the city's development code to make substantial changes to the property. The grocer is asking the city to approve zero-foot building setbacks along Louisiana and Webster, as well as to remove the "visibility triangle" requirement at that intersection to match the reduction in building setbacks. As part of the changes, Randalls has proposed upgrades to the pedestrian areas along the two roads, including new sidewalks, trees and installing a "green screen" on the facade of the building expansion.
UtterlyUrban
A larger Randalls is a good thing. Another option (beyond Randalls and Pheonica) in downtown or midtown would also be a good thing.
sdotwill84
wish they would revamp the entire store. i hate the suburban feel of that place.
cspwal
Honestly it's one of the least suburban feeling grocery stores I've been to. It has an under ground parking garage, minimal surface parking, and has a smaller feel than most grocery stores do now a days. It doesn't have a shopping cart escalator or 0' setbacks, but its much more urban than say the HEB on W. Alabama, which has a huge parking lot that stretches to the horizon

Sounds like they're already at least addressing some of the 0' setbacks, though that seems to be more the fault of outdated city rules than anything they did. What would make it more "urban"? Does it need to be more crowded...or more grungy? (It should be noted that there are numerous unquestionably urban stores in San Francisco, New Jersey, Washington DC, and Chicago that DO have surface parking) ...or were you complaining that it looks too much like every other Randalls store in the city, which is more the result of brutal homogenizing in the late 2000s? samagon
I wish there were stairs from the parking garage to the inside, rather than the elevator that takes 5 minutes to use. that and they suck at keeping the place stocked. and now there's no more self checkout. terra002
Yea, they're going to need to clean that area up before this happens. This looks cool, but the people in the first rendering would technically be walking from the greyhound station...

They might be. The guy on the right in the blue coat is walking barefooted while holding his shoes in his hand. Looks exactly like he is coming from the Greyhound station.

dbigtex56
The Sausage & Boudin Shack (3610 Reed Rd) has expanded operations into Midtown. BBQ, Soul Food, sandwiches, fried fish plates, etc. 2111 Fannin (inside the Texaco Service Station across from the Greyhound station). Got some oxtail, yams, rice, and cornbread last night - Good food, good price! It's located in a corner of the convenience store in the Texaco station. Not glamorous to begin with, and some sketchy charactors....you might want to get it 'to go', or better yet, they deliver. Definitely going again.
