(AP) — A United Airlines executive says the carrier wants to pursue a joint venture with Continental Airlines and Japan's All Nippon Airways for flights across the Pacific.
Those three carriers already sell seats on each other's planes. A joint venture would allow closer coordination and more revenue sharing.

Lol, isn't this called price fixing? Didn't the govt catch Sutherbees and Christies auction houses conspiring to do the same with their business back in the late 90's?
I think we need some new Christmas carols with a more modern approach. Of course, I wouldn't abandon the religious theme completely. How about "Holy Christ, the Christmas Tree's on Fire"? Or "Jesus, Can You Believe It's Christmas Again?" This ought to get the ball rolling; I'm hoping you people will take it from here.

The bigger news here is the fact that Tokyo Haneda will be an option for non-stop flights from the U.S.

Until now HND has been a domestic only airport that is right near the heart of Tokyo. With this news Haneda becomes a better option than Narita which is a good sixty miles from downtown Tokyo.

That is good news. With the way the airlines have cut back on flights, it's hard to get to some places in Asia without going through HND. For me, that often means flying into NRT and then cabbing it over to HND for about $100 to make the connection. Hate it.

As an update, Continental has applied to fly Newark to Haneda and Guam to Haneda: http://www.continent...%26ID%3D1391563

I am guessing the Guam flights will be on a 767-400 Mike (specific to the Micronesia fleet) and a few 737-800s. For the EWR-HND flight I do not know where they are going to move the planes from. It will be interesting to see this unfold.

the GUM-HND flight will be operated by a single 767-400 (20/236 configuration), with the EWR-HND proposed for 777 service. With 2 additonal 777 coming online this year, rearanging of the route planning can be done to accomodate. Although 777 cycles will be very limited on ground time. IAH-AMS will be downgraded to a 764 permanently as well, so there is some spare 777 flight time on top of the additional 2 CO is getting.

I have my doubts that Continental will actually be granted EWR-HND. Instead, I think we'll see GUM-HND granted to Continental, HNL-HND granted to Hawaiian Airlines, one route granted to Delta, and probably something from the west coast granted to United. I just do not see the DOT granting three slots to the Star Alliance.

From houstonspotter.net:

A contingent of Denver city and business leaders traveled to Japan last week to remind aviation officials that interest remains strong in attracting All Nippon Airways nonstop service between Tokyo and Denver.

Visits by Denver airport and business officials to woo the airline have gone on for more than a decade, though Denver has maintained the pressure for the past six years.

"We wanted them to know we're still aggressively pursuing the service," said Sally Covington, marketing chief at Denver International Airport.

The nonstop service from Tokyo's Narita International Airport is important for DIA, Covington said, adding, "Tokyo is the gateway to Asia for us."

Covington said the Tokyo-Denver connection would mean about $120 million a year in direct revenue for DIA and indirect and induced revenues.

All Nippon Airways is the "launch" customer for the Boeing 787, called the "Dreamliner." Testing of the new 210-seat aircraft has been delayed.

The Japanese carrier is considering at least two U.S. cities to serve with the widebody jet, with Boston, Houston and Miami also suggested.
