I would like to know the intentions of those lots and also am wondering about the house down the street next to Sacred Heart tatoo-- It's been recently painted but still has significant vine growth up throught the roof.

I had been old by Neighborhood protection that it had been investigated and found "unsafe" and would be torn down-- still. . . . . a new coat of paint on the front porch?

Plans have been revealed for the new restaurant concept taking over the former Aqui space in Montrose

Owner Matthew Mitchell plans to open Traveler's Table, a "curated global cuisine" restaurant, at 520 Westheimer Road in early October, according to a press release. The 3,879-square-foot restaurant will seat 141 inside and 32 on the 575-square-foot covered patio.

Austin-based A Parallel Architecture, the original architect of the space; Gin Braverman of Houston-based Gin Design Group; and Larry Walther of Richmond-based Matrix Contractors LLC are serving as the architect, interior designer and general contractor transforming the space, according to a spokesperson. Emily Durham of Waterman Steele Real Estate Advisors represented Mitchell in leasing the space.

Traveler's Table was inspired by Mitchell's past as a writer and journalist living abroad, per the release. The name comes from the a communal, food cart-inspired "traveler's table" that will seat 16 with a view of the kitchen.

Mitchell "imagines a bygone era of traders and merchants returning from their travels to share exciting new food and drinks with friends and family at a communal 'traveler’s table,'" the release states.

Nearby the communal table, there will be a shelf with brightly colored spices and travel guides from around the world, the release states. The restaurant will incorporate dishes from the Far East, India, the Middle East, Africa, Western Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean.

Mitchell has hired Jordan Economy as executive chef and Austin Moreno as general manager. Moreno just returned to Houston after spending 13 years managing hotels and restaurants in Asia. The menu will feature small sharable plates, flatbreads, salads and entrees, and there will be a full bar with cocktails, wine and beer.

The dishes will be modern interpretations of traditional global cuisine and many will be vegetable-forward or "playful re-imaginings of how iconic dishes are typically served," the release states.

"In his cuisine, Mitchell emphasizes elevating traditional dishes by making them lighter, brighter, and more flavorful while utilizing quality ingredients, garnishes, and plating techniques," the release states. "Both Mitchell and Economy emphasize that their goal is to showcase the amazing flavors that make different parts of the world unique, and even if an ingredient or flavor is not traditionally found in a given dish, it is still common to the cuisine of that region."

Traveler's Table will serve lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Brunch and happy hour will be added in the future.

Austin chef Paul Qui, who had been surrounded by controversy since a March 2016 arrestopened Aqui in August 2017 and closed it in December 2018. In April, Eater Houston reported that permit applications for the new Traveler's Table concept had been filed with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for the space.
