It would be inappropriate to speak too much of my past, umm, prediliction for much younger men, but I can assure you I would never have read US Weekly for style tips. ^_^ And cougars don't have role models.

Some of the young folks are all agog, having heard about that newest media sensation: The Cougar! Wouldn't want to shock the dear innocents--who obviously still have much to learn about how the world works.

Women of a certain age out by themselves? How dare they!

Sorry to hijack the thread but the reason that I ask is that I have several friends who are in their early 30s single, never been married, no kids that worry they may be classified as such. All are good looking girls who put their careers first. We love a 5 dollar Rain martini and go to Benjys all the time. Glad to know we arent being considered as such.

Uhg, I'm in my mid 30's and I'm now cougar hunting? Damnit! I'm going to classify a cougar as an upper 40's lady to make me feel better.

I guess I'm off to Benjy's. Who's with me?

No, we're actually at risk of being labeled "Pumas." Something about a 30-something, single, career woman looking to hook-up meaninglessly with 20-something hotties because we don't want to limit ourselves.

I don't know any 30-something female that fits that definition- but the stretch from the 'cougar' term cracks me up.

I think this thread has gone off on a tangent. Everything from post #296 forward should be placed in a new thread in one of the off-topic sections.

Unless your an Arthur Kade fan, stay away! Classic see and be seen crowd, however in this locale they are really slumming it.

Props to Block21.

In keeping with the original theme of the thread, let me just add that I saw the changes that came to Washington. It's not so long ago that people were looking FORWARD to the opening of Pearl Bar. In addition to the coming Quiet Zone, I believe the development along the Washington Corridor is the main reason my property value has gone up 20% in three years.

I really do feel bad for people who have to deal with the drunks right on their front doorstep, but since I live north of the railroad tracks they never bother me. I wouldn't even know Wash Ave is a hotbed of activity on the weekends, if I didn't venture out. But then if I do head out I could walk to the establishments, as I have in the past.

Anyone know what the Social is like now days? I haven't been there in about 5 years when it was the only club in that area. Also, anyone know of a good bar on Washington to watch the fireworks for 4th of July?

Anyone know what's going in the old warehouse in the parking lot they built next to Ei8ht? I've heard rumors of a country bar??

The parking for Ei8ht in the neighborhood is already horrendous, I can't even imagine what it will be like when Taps, Busty LaRoue's, and this new "country" bar open...

Sample of the parking issues... I live a few blocks off Washington, near Ei8ht...the scene outside my house at 3 AM Sunday Morning a few weeks ago. Drunk suburbanite 21-year-old drove into our ditch.

Still there in the morning...

She claimed that she thought it was a one way street and that a car was coming towards her, so she pulled over (into a ditch that was JUST the size for her car!)... despite the fact that 6 feet behind her was a street, and 3 feet in front of her was a driveway.

A couple weeks later, we added the giant rocks along the grassy side of our property, and already one has been run over (cracked in half), and another one knocked over...

The owners totally revamped the Social and it's awesome inside, but it's dead dead dead. I mean, I still like to go there, esp on Friday nights to hear the DJ play 80s-90s hip-hop, but the crowd is always slim.

For some reason I can't see those? Does someone know why I might be having problems viewing images? Its only sometimes I have issues seeing the pics.

Where are those Jeep pics taken? Is that North of Washington or South? We've got similar ditches out in front of our houses a few blocks south of Washington, near Ei8ht. I've been expecting a situation like this to occur for a while now... Just a matter of time.

I have the answer to my question of what are the large cement blocks that have been poored along the road, such as near Inker W of Durham.

lol, they also made it to Swamplot.

Once again, HAIF and HAIF members are the first and best source for everything Houston!! By the time the people over at the Press are tweeting it, we've already dissected the issue. Ha, give it another week and it will make Nancy's column in the Chron.

North of Washington...

I don't mind them being shared (I allowed the houstonist to use them), but yeah, the license plate should probably be blurred. I was just lazy. :)

License plates are on public view all the time, someone carelessly parked their car tipped over in a ditch. I see no problem at all letting the world see their license plate.

I would love to hear that day in court....

JUDGE: So after you drunkenly crashed your car into her front yard, then left it there over night, you're upset that she didn't blur the plates? Is this what you're saying?

I've been to all of the places on Washington, and I know some of the owners so I never wait in line. Let's face it - it's douche bag central at present. In another couple of years it will be as "great" as midtown. The best hope is that some of the current or opening bars will wind up as restaurants or more desirable places... It will never be as bad as it was 5 years ago, but at best some of the bars will be replaced by restaurants or other decent businesses. Washington Ave is generally ugly and undesirable to those with $$$, but the changes have definitely been for the better. I was looking to buy there 3 years ago, but quite honestly, all of the progress was already built into the price

The big question is, what's the NEXT big area? Again, it will not be the area that big money flows to, but the area that the thirty-thousand millionaires flock to...

One of my favorite and truest expressions. Maybe a Shepherd/Richmond/Alabama revival? Or maybe east side depending on development due to the soccer stadium.

The d-b sorm appears to be moving west-northwest @ 1 mile per year. It's expected to strike somewhere over the lower Hempstead Hwy area within the next two years. It will be fed by a convection of those who can easily access it from I-10. Those staying long-term (or frequently short-term) in the Sunset Motel need to pay attention to this storm.

An outflow may occur along S. Shepherd all the way from Washington to W. Alabama, consuming empty strip mall space. This outflow will quickly be stemmed by forces in the "River Oaks area".

An outflow may occur along S. Shepherd all the way from Washington to W. Alabama, consuming empty strip mall space. This outflow will quickly be stemmed by forces in the "River Oaks area".

Stopped by the Drinkery on Friday night and I wouldn't say it's douche bag free. It's more douche bag light.

Anyplace that lets me come in with shorts and flip-flops at 10:30pm is alright in my book. I wouldn't say the place is douche bag light.

Went to the Drinkery last night and I am pleased to report it is DOUCHE BAG FREE! For the time being anyway......

I went on Friday night to meet a couple friends there and the first thing they said to me was "this place is full of douche bags." I had to laugh, of course.

There were a few Ed-Hardy-wearing-DB guys there hitting on girls and being general DB-ish, but they won't be there long. I liked the atmosphere/crowd WAY better there than The Lot across the street...

I have a feeling The Drinkery will be the place to go before going out, so you will see some of that crowd, but I'm fine with it. And I think the term "douchebag" is not used properly anymore.

Then, how should "douchebag" should be used?

Should we go ahead and start up a thread and work on a definition by HAIFy consensus?

I think we need to.

Anyone know of a classy lounge on Washington that isn't pretentious? So far I've been sticking to the bars like Pearl Bar and the Lot, because I'm not into waiting in lines or paying covers/tipping doormen to be let in.

Dark Horse... Porch Swing... Bubba's... Those are classy in my book by the definition below...
adj.1.having elegance or taste or refinement in manners or dress. Opposite of styleless.2.exhibiting refinement and high character. Opposite of low-classIf you ask me, most of the lounges on Washington have patrons that lack taste, manners, and dress not to mention the absence of high character.

I think its an amorphous term - one year pink polos and flipped collars, another year fauxhawks with frosted tips....

As to PureAuter - and I am being serious - isn't a 'lounge' by definition pretentious? If you mean sports bar or dive bar I can name some places, but a lounge to me is what used to be 'clubs,' minus a real dance floor, and profitability hinges on the desirability to see and be seen?

Try Block 21. The same owner as The Flat and a couple of other loungy places.

I think Autuer is conflicted. He wants to ogle the chicks in the douchebag bars without being around the male douchebags. But, it's not a mix and match proposition. Those chicks are there BECAUSE the douchebags are there. If you want your chick fix, just go. If you're worried about being ridiculed on this forum, don't post about it later. This is not a hard concept.

So, I thought I mentioned this somewhere on here, but I can't find it...

I've heard that the warehouse-y building in the parking lots on Washington @ Roy is going to be a country bar... anyone know any more about that? Is it going to be that "Busty LaRoue's" place, maybe? That sounds country. Someone did spray paint "Honky Tonk Honky Tonk" on the side of the building this weekend, and they put up some raw wooden tree trunks as posts in the front, so it is looking pretty country!

What I really want to know is where the heck are these people going to park??

LMAO and yay- the board has a rep system now.

Though I used to frequent DB bars, know the owners, door guys, etc. I think it's a 20something male right of passage. Just don't BE one of the DB's :)
