dbigtex56
My understanding is that when Galveston Bay was first "discovered" that the water was, in fact, clear and blue. Aquatic grasses grew near the shoreline, which trapped sediments and kept the water clean. Once these natural filters were removed due to dredging, fine silt was free to stay in circulation. It's always going to be a balancing act, a compromise. Galveston Bay is an access to the Ship Channel, and the Port of Houston is the lifeblood of our local economy. Galveston Bay is also a nursury for much the Gulf of Mexico's aquatic life, much of which is commercially valuable. And the Gulf Coast is an asset for its scenic and recreational possibilities. These competing interests seem mutually incompatible, but I think that sensible management can go far towards the 'highest use' of this wonderful natural resource. Let me see what I can find to add to it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might tell me how to post some pictures of the city I have taken. Is there anyway to post photos (attachments) from my hard drive or do they have to come from a website? Thanks in advance.

Gary
That I know of, they have to be hosted (from a website). What types of photos were you looking to post?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I do quite a bit of landscape photography on the side and have recently spent alot of time Downtown walking and shooting. I actually have shots from all over the inner loop ie from atop Rice stadium, Medical Center, Galleria etc.I noticed there were pictures being posted from local sources. Are these all coming from websites?
YakuzaIce
I noticed there were pictures being posted from local sources. Are these all coming from websites?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Some probably just came from websites, but some people probably took them. Like mine I took them and uploaded them to www.photobucket.com and then I was able to post them here.I might try and get some more downtown shots this weekend. Just wondering do any of you get hassled alot while taking pictures. Sometimes like three people will come up to me and then other days no one will. It's kind of funny that the security guard leaves their post inside the building to come out and tell me not to take pictures of other buildings. I know "Robo Cop" used some images from Houston in Robo 2.....also, I read a book a long time ago about Houston in the distant future (I think the year was 3000 AD or something)...the cover on the book was sort of cool........but improbable.......some of the present day skyscrapers were included.....like any of them will be around 1000 yrs. from now! Anyway if anyone has info. or pix., I would be grateful. m. Houston19514
Looks like it was taken from infront of GRB. Yes?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yes, that's Five Houston Center, with the former (or soon-to-be-former) Chevron Tower behind it. The shot appears to have been taken from in front of the GRB and Hilton Americas. debmartin
photobucket has a free user service but it's better to upgrade to premium for more space and fewer banners. it's just $9 for 3mos but you can get a year for $25.debmartin

debmartin
my son takes pictures all over the med center - before christmas we were stopped and harassed insided the lobby of md anderson for shooting a fountain. after listening to the security guard's tirade for about 10 minutes i decided to embarass him by mentioning that my son is a patient there. he mumbled something about terrorism, homeland security and finally something lame about protecting the privacy of other patients. then he snapped to how that sounded and said he was new to that lobby and had never seen us before. i took it up with the administrative offices and learned there are no restrictions on taking pictures except the one about needing releases and permission if shooting people.we've come a long way from the days of snapping pictures of interesting people, places and things.debmartin
Montrose1100
Its rediculious how you get harrased for taking pictures...I wanted to speak to the management of the JP Morgan Chase Tower when I was followed by Elevator to the sky lobby by 3 security guards. They asked me to leave the building, because I was taking pictures. They followed me to the lobby, "escorted" me out of the building, and completely off of the block! So, I stood on the side walk, and continued photographing. Its absolutly UBSERD that we cannot take pictures. Some people are nuts!
