  1. Spring ISD seems to be trying to slip school attendance boundary changes under the radar of locals. You have got to love a survey process that only lasts one day past the community meetings and the only news releases to the public about the meetings are in the "neighborhood" section of the Chron.com--at 2p the afternoon before the day of the last meeting it appears. http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/spring/news/article/Spring-ISD-considers-attendance-zone-changes-10948440.php The numbers on their campus "enrollment projections" don't seem to incorporate development patters at all--are they not aware of new neighborhoods and apartment complexes that have already gone up? For that matter, the numbers in the doc also are not reviewed--Salyers somehow magically loses 100+ students one year and gains them all back the following year, while Smith does the opposite?? What's going on here is a typo that the school district failed to catch. Oops! SMH. Does SISD really think that by the 2020-2021 school year their districtwide high school student population will only increase by ~100 students? Then what are the three new 9th grade campuses in the last bond election for!?!? Using I-45 as the "natural" boundary for Middle School zones? Give me a break. What they're really doing is setting up for another bond proposal to fix the terrible zones that are going to be put into place now--all of those middle school kids living along Imperial Valley will be riding the bus thru Aldine ISD to get to school. Take a look at the high schools too--that one's an "interesting" one too. http://www.springisd.org/abr Check it out for yourself and see if it passes the smell test. This one ought to get media attention very soon--something's not right here.
  2. After the Spring High School stabbing, it is possible that more affluent families will leave Spring ISD for good. I know the demographics have been changing for a while but this will do it even more.
  3. The Spring Independent School District (ISD) covers areas in unincorporated Harris County and a VERY small portion of Houston. Spring ISD serves many communities, including Spring, Olde Oaks, Ponderosa Forest, and Bammel. Spring ISD has two high schools, Spring and Westfield. Westfield, which is divided into two campuses (one 9th and one 10-12), is overcrowded. The school's poor academic performance caused property values to drop, so Spring ISD built a new high school called DeKaney High School. DeKaney, named after former Spring ISD board member Andy DeKaney, will open in fall 2006. DeKaney will relieve Spring and Westfield High Schools. Spring ISD will also open two new elementary schools (Jenkins and McNabb) and one middle school (Bailey), all of which will feed into Spring High School. : EDIT: The previous phrase about the elementary schools is not correct, actually So, what else should the district do to improve?
  4. The Spring ISD Board of Trustees approved the names for two new Elementary Schools and a Support Services Facility at its meeting Monthly Meeting on December 11, 2007. Elementary School #21 *Booker Elementary School Elementary School #22 *Northgate Crossing Elementary School Support Center *Spring ISD Support Services Center Both Schools are scheduled to open in August 2008, and the Support Center in 2009. 5. Residents Send Clear Message to Spring ISD Spring superintendent Ralph Draper, who started work at the district only four days before the election, said the message voters sent the school district is loud and clear. "This bond election, at this time, was not the way they wanted to go," Draper said. "What we have to do is get everyone back to the table, including those who may not have been at the table before, to build broad-based community support for a plan that will meet the district's and students' needs. [snip] Members of the grassroots Homeowners Against Spring ISD Bond Propositions Inc. said they turned out against the three propositions because the Spring school district is not spending existing budget money wisely. Another round of bond debt would send the district's tax rate through the roof, they said. "I think people turned out in large numbers against the propositions for two reasons," said Tom Matthews, a Northgate Forest subdivision resident and spokesman for the opposition group. "First was the hot-button issue. The propositions included things people just didn't think were right, including the natatorium, computers and new auditorium. The second was a pocketbook issue. The district is going to have to do things to control spending before voters will agree to a tax increase." Matthews said the group is not opposed to building schools to house students, but members want to see financial reform on the district level before they support future bond issues. Dr. Bert Williams, an opposition group member, said Homeowners Against Spring ISD Bond Propositions Inc. will not disappear now that the election is over. "Our next move is to run a slate of officers against the existing school board members in the next election," Williams said. "We would like to see people with a fresh perspective on the board
  6. Jan. 8, 2008, 3:28PM Spring teacher charged with sexually abusing teen By JENNIFER LEAHY Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle A Westfield High School teacher has been charged with sexual abuse of a child. Shannon Kay Hrozek, 42, of Houston, was arrested after an assistant principal entered her 10th-grade English classroom after school on Thursday and found her performing oral sex on a 16-year-old male student, court records show. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5435742.html From the Smoking Gun "Room 143 With The Lights Off" Texas teacher charged in sex assault of 16-year-old male student http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years...ml?link=rssfeed
  7. http://www.click2houston.com/news/13974395/detail.html This hits close to home for me, since I work less than 100 yards from where this happened. If he was supposed to be at a scrimmage game, what was he doing hanging around at a parking lot getting into fights? Didn't sound like he had his priorities straight. The suspect was from Louisiana and killed the football player with a shotgun. It's sad that it always takes a crime like this to get these kind of people out of society. They really need to clean up that Trestles apartment complex. It's nothing but welfare recipients. They should end welfare completely in this country, but that's a different topic for another time.

  9. This Saturday June 9, 2007, The Spring ISD and Dekaney High School Administration will host a tour for the general public to come and get a first hand look at the new facility. Dekaney High School features approximately 486,000 square feet and designed around 4 Grade Level Houses. This facility along with the new Carl Wunsche HS are signature facilities for Spring ISD. Dekaney High School will hold 2,500 students at it's capacity. On August 8, 2007, The Klein ISD, Krimmel Intermediate School Administration and Northwest Chamber of Commerce will host a Grand Opening and Tour event for the general public. Administrators want the community and public to come out and get a first hand look at the district's first full functioning campus designed in Grade Level Houses and a 1-1 wireless computer ratio. Krimmel Intermediate School features about 177,000 square feet and is once again designed around 3 Grade Level Houses. On August 27, 2007 approximately 1,200 students will start off the Krimmel Knights tradition.
  10. The Board of Trustees of the Spring Independent School District voted for a $280 million Bond at a recent meeting. Key features of the Bond include a Comprehensive High School and 6 Elementary Schools. There are a number of needed district items and Campus Improvments in the Bond also. All items are a result of student growth. Spring ISD is expected to have over 40,000 students in the next 5-10 years. 12. I just recently heard that the Stafford School District might be going downhill because of some new hires in prominent positions. Is there a way that can be done to bring this to light? From what I understand a new principle to a school there came in bringing in her own agenda and is basically bullying teachers to the point where they want to leave so she can bring in her select teachers in. It just infuriates me how I'm seeing a good school district has the potential of suffering greatly because of a hire who simply didn't go through the proper channels and the kids are going to pay for it.
