  1. I found this proposal while skimming LoopNet a while ago. Supposedly, someone wants to build a small medical office building with retail & a garage at that location with the aim of opening by early 2013. The brochure hints at a Phase Two that would be an "event center, bar/lounge" that would have retail. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/ParcBinzOne.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/ParcBinzOneA.jpg Links ----- LoopNet Listing Promotional Brochure

  3. City of Houston Housing & Community Development has announced preliminary plans to renovate the existing site of Wesley AME Church for mixed use, including affordable apartments, retail, and live-work units for small business incubation. Sales document
  4. Plat filed for the eastern half of lot that currently has the office building containing the Maritime museum and Andes Cafe on 2311 Canal St., so only the portion currently empty is covered. This entire property along with the one across the street bounded by Canal, Navigation, Runnels and the RR are owned by Midway (listed as KBRN on HCAD, same as East River). Both are highlighted in the attached picture. Judging by the shape I am thinking mid rise apartments, hopefully with some mixed use fronting Navigation. Anyone have additional info? Could this be the start of a larger "Gateway to the East End" project comprising both properties.
  5. A recent arcticle on another lifestyle center in Pearland! http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto.../10/story5.html
  6. A lot of rumors about the Montrose HPD (900 block Westheimer) storefront closing, not surprising since HPD Chief Acevedo wasn’t a fan of store front idea. But a neighbor mentioned a developer had bought the entire strip ( Guess Theo’s Will be moving also.)center and a few adjacent lots north on Grant and on Crockett street including a beautifully restored 1920’s home. All for multi use multi-storied building ——included will be the Freed library’s move from Montrose Blvd. Apparently the developer did something charming around 6 th street and Yale in the Heights. Now I wonder if this developer will underwrite the HPD storefront in that development or if someone else will offer rent free space inside Montrose for the storefront to move into. 7. Does anyone remember a store called Sage? It was on the east side of the gulf freeway somewhere between edgebrook and shaver. It sat at a funny angle to the street and had a huge parking lot. I never went to that store and have no idea what they sold but I remember it being very big and always packed with cars.

An archive link to this thread is coming. The 1500 block of N Shepherd is being converted into a new development. The map for Bungalows on 22nd St shows the entire 1500 block of North Shepherd as development called Market at Houston Heights. The properties are between W 16th St and W 15th St, across the street from Wooster's Annex and Heights Bier Garten. The site plan depicts three restaurants and a retail space.

  13. There's a sign at the corner of Grey and Smith, advertising the new building they're putting in. Right under that, it says "Coming soon", and has the logos of Starbucks and Quiznos. I dismissed it right away, assuming that the Starbucks would be one of those fake, mini-set ups like they have in Randalls. Nope. Sources have confirmed that it'll be a full-fledged Starbucks. An entire store. Is this cool or what? Personally, I can't stand Starbucks (I prefer independent coffee shops), but I can't deny what a Starbucks means for a neighborhood. They don't build stores unless they see a future in a place. And, other major companies will see that Starbucks and Bw3 are there, and jump in eventually, too. So, this is pretty amazing. I'd just about given up on Midtown. But it looks like it's slowly going someplace.
  14. Anyone have information about this property? Its next to the Glasswall property. Fencing has been put up around it and looks like maybe a pending demo?

  16. I’ve noticed for the last few months that this building had been been gutted and then painted, so I was wondering what was going on. I drove by today and saw there’s a temporary sign out for Tokyo Joe’s. A quick google search yielded that this will be Tokyo Joe’s Shot Bar. Sorry if there’s already a thread for this location. I didn’t see it so feel free to merge or delete as necessary.
  17. Hey guys. I went and tried out the new Coffee Groundz cafe last night. It's located in the strip mall opposite Specs in Midtown (next to Comcast) on McGowan where Pilgrim Cleaners were once. They just opened this week. The coffee was great and they serve local gelato (freshly made), made to order paninnis and wine and other alcohol. The place is decked out with wireless internet with power outlets everwhere. It's a large space with outdoor patio seating (facing el patio/the tipsy clover) and private indoor booths. The manager came and chatted with the customers last night which was kind of nice and solicited any feedback to make the place better. Soon they will have the drive-through window up and running. I guess everytime I read a post on HAIF, every one is keen to have more local original businesses in midtown. I see this as being one of them but it will only remain if we support it. I guess try it out and make up your own mind!
  18. On a just-barely-related note: Many people know that Service Corporation International, the world's largest funeral home company, is headquartered in Houston. What most people don't know is that there is a cafeteria in the basement of their building. Even fewer people know its nickname is "The Coffin Cafe."
  19. Surprised I'm the first to post this revelation (at least I think I am), but the Allen House is slated to be re-developed. Notices were on the doors of 3535 and 3505 Dallas and 3601 Allen Pkwy. June 1 closing. Mixed used development planned...kind of explains all of the recent structure torn down in the area. Surely the Chronicle will be on this news. As for me, well its been home for a bunch of years...
  20. Okay.... So wasn't this theater supposed to have retail or resturants inside? What happened? Soft market? No investors? Anyone have any info? Don't get me wrong I like the murals of future restaurants. Just wondering.
  21. Either I haven't noticed it before, or a new sign popped up at Louisiana and Elgin, next to the big parking garage. They are advertising commercial leases available in 2006. Hopefully it will be something comparable to the new High Fashion Home, which I've been impressed with.
  22. The building contains two businesses, Pink Berry frozen yogurt and Zoe's Kitchen. Zoes Kitchen is awesome. Love that yellow rice! Cool little retail center in the high profile river oaks. Regarding future, high-rise development, the purchaser would most likely include this parcel and the one next door, the Plants n' Petals flower shop. This stand a lone parcel is too small to work with. Edit:
