  1. A Class-B hotel in Uptown is listed for sale. It's not very tall so I wouldn't think this would be a hotel to multifamily conversion. Most likely just a rebranding. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/6221-Richmond-Ave-Houston-TX/30028758/
  2. The Great Value Houston/Galleria located at 6060 Hooton Street is listed on Loopnet for sale. I can see a hotel to multifamily conversion here. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/6060-Hooton-St-Houston-TX/30949451/
  3. Forthcoming Sharpstown/Gulfton hotel to multifamily conversion? https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/6885-Southwest-Fwy-Houston-TX/30949459/
  4. Last week I took a few photos of the Hyatt House Houston/Galleria At 3440 Sage Road. Here are the two pictures I took:
  5. The Extended Stay America Suites Hotel located at 1301 South Braeswood Boulevard has a limited time. Located practically across the street from TMC Helix Park and some vacant MD Anderson land. MD Anderson will need this hotel parcel in order to build. Although, it is nice to have some budget (regular) hotel options when you are sick. Maybe it's a good thing that this hotel is here. Here's some photos that I took today:
  6. Saw this FAA Obstruction permit for the hotel. Merge if already posted. Architect - https://www.bokapowell.com https://austin.towers.net/austins-waterloo-park-hotel-tower-could-finally-break-ground-in-2023/
  7. Office to hotel conversion on a National Register of Historic Places building. Architect - https://www.hksinc.com

The average daily rate and revenue per available room increased 5.4% and 11.5%, respectively, over the same month last year. Houston’s hotels have maintained a steady increase in business in 2023 compared to 2022. During the first nine months of the year, hotel occupancy averaged 61.1%, up 7.8% compared with the same period in 2022. ADR and RevPAR were up 7.5% and 15.9%, respectively, so far this year compared with 2022, according to Houston First."

  11. I was browsing the publication The Texas Jewish Herald dated September 18, 1930 and came across this business advertisement. Never heard of this hotel so I thought I would share! Fox Hotel 1006 Dallas Between Main and Fannin "A friendly hotel with every convenience" Fire proof - steam heated Newly furnished throughout Rates moderate A.C. 12. I don't think this hotel was ever built? I know there was the Sterling Building located at 608 Fannin Street. Famous architects! Wyatt C. Hedrick was so cool! From the publication Greater Houston Texas and the Southwest, dated September 1929. The Sterling Hotel Mr. R.S. Sterling, Owner. Hedrick & Gottlieb, Architects, Houston, Texas.
  13. woah! Look what I found! I searched HAIF and only found one post dating back 18 years ago. Thought I would bring this to the surface with pictures! Loos like the 1950s? I know the Houston Main Street Airport was located at 9100-A South Main Street. This motel development would either have been next door to the airport, or came afterwards. We Too Can Make Friends Making friends is a lot of fun. Shaking hands with every one; hearing what each has to say. As we meet them day by day. Swapping smiles and trading cheer. Makes us happy while were here. All the joy of life depends on the art of making friends! 14. Love the old cars! Looks like the Ramada Inn located in Gulfton would have been active in the 1960s? There is a (new?) hotel near there. Did this get demolished and rebuilt into something with higher density? Look at all that natural grass and not concrete! Cool bit of history here. Ramada Inn 6855 Southwest Freeway * Houston, Texas 77036 Phone (713) 771-0641 Twelve minutes to Astrodomain . . . Complete hotel service . . . coffee shop . . . Rama Club . . . 15. Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has ANY information about the old Victory Motel that used to be on McCarty St. (It's now Centro America Truck Sales). There's an old sign that's still standing and some of the neon tubes are still hanging in there. Thanks in advance! Drew
  16. Discovered a new, historic, hotel today! How many Buffalo-named motels/hotels did Houston have? There were also; Buffalo Inn Motor Hotel At 9051 South Main St. Buffalo Motel At 3011 Allen Pkwy. From the newspaper Labor Messenger dated November 27, 1942: Buy Bonds With What You Save A Clean House at Low Rates Hotel Buffalo 523 Preston B.3-1015 Excuse me if 523 Preston is a phone number. I assumed B. 3-1015 was the phone number.
  17. I found an usual motel this week. I wanted to ask HAIF if anyone knew more about it. Mainly, the address. I'm unsure if the old hotel/motel is located on South Main Street, or Old Main Street Road (in this instance, South Old Main Street Road) I guess we can figure this out by the date? This was in 1957, so I believe OMSR was still an active road. If you notice, all the other motels are listed as "S. Main" whereas the last motel, Navarro Motel, is worded differently. Makes me think it's not the same as the others, not on South Main Street. Or perhaps, the writer/journalist/reporter did not know the exact location? Any photos of this historic motel? Any more details? From the publication Texas State Journal of Medicine 1957-12: Vol 53 Iss 12 The following motels are available: Alamotel Court, 8700 S. Main. Braeswood Motel, 2116 Holcombe. Buffalo Inn Hotel, 951 S. Main. Carlon Courts, 8200 S. Main. Nomad Motor Hotel, 10000 S. Main. Plaza Motel, 1700 Old Spanish Trail. Pioneer Motel, 2902 Old Spanish Trail. Rainbow Inn Motel, 3713 Old Spanish Trail. Ranger Motel, 2916 Old Spanish Trail. St. Francis Courts, 3615 Old Spanish Trail. Sun Valley Hotel, 1310 Old Spanish Trail. Wallcroft Gardens, 1857 Old Spanish Trail. Western Skies No. 1, 2806 Old Spanish Trail. King Motel, 9101 Main. Navarro Motel, South Main Street Road.
  18. I got this idea from another HAIF member. I wonder the percentage of hotels sitting empty, and that are very active, in the TMC area? Unlike downtown, and other areas, I don't see the TMC hotels being converted into residential. I bet hotels in the TMC stay pretty full unlike areas of town. I know this is a given, but I wish the TMC would create a hotel skyscraper. 40 to 50 stories. I believe the proposed TMC Helix Park hotel is around 30 stories. Then again, people visiting the TMC might not want a luxury skyscraper hotel due to their medical cost.
  19. I was looking around for historic Houston things and came across some cool history. The Hutchins House Hotel from the late 1800s. I wonder if we can find this on any Sanborn maps? The Hutchins House – Houston, Texas $50,000 has been expended in remodeling and refurnishing this hotel. It is now first-class in every particular; fifty private bath rooms; electric elevator; new light plant; general equipment unsurpassed. American plan, $2.00 to $3.5 per day. European plan, $1.00 to $2.00 per day. Finest Turkish bath rooms in the south. W.T. & J.T. Boyle, Proprietors. I was looking for further information and found an event ticket for the Rail Road Ball that was held on January 23, 1872. From the newspaper The Age. dated July 15, 1875: Hotel - Hutchins House - N.P. Turner Corner Franklin and Travis streets
  20. I found this cool old post card recently and thought I would share. I searched HAIF and couldn't find anything about it. Looks like this one is considered rare! The post card is stamped 1954. Mission Motel U.S. Highway 59 and 90-A (South Side) Houston, Texas Mission Motel 4110 Old Spanish Trail – Milby 9114 U.S. Highways No. 59 and 90-A (South Side) Houston, Texas Ten Minutes From Business Center. Air Conditioned – 72 degrees – Vented Heat in Winter – City *** Ways – Limousine – Theatre – Post Office – Foods – All Within One Block. Box Springs – Innerspring Mattresses – Bell Boy Service 24 Hours – Time Baths Approved AAA
  21. I found this postcard on worthpoint. Does anyone know about this? I searched and couldn't find anything. I can only assume this hotel was located within the Highland Park Amusement Park that was below the current-day Interstate-45? Awesome building!! Very cool. I also found an advertisement in the newspaper The Houston Post. dated June 18, 1906. Highland Park Hotel Cool, nicely furnished rooms and excellent board, by week or month. Old phone 4503 A.F. M'Clean.
  22. On HAIF, I have heard talk about the old motor near Highway 59 and Beechnut. Today I was lucky enough to find an postcard! Looking on Google Maps, it appears a Shell gas station was built over the old motel? You don't see an English style development very often. Very cool! Texas Hospitality In An "Old English" Setting Manor House Inn and Restaurant 8115 Southwest Freeway (at Beechnut) Houston, Texas 77036 / Phone A/C-PR 1-0671
  23. Does anyone know when the Albert Pick Motor Inn located at 3301 Southwest Freeway was active? I'm assuming the motel was in operational in the 1970s? What replaced the demolished motel? Looking on Google Maps, it brings me to the intersection of 59 South at Buffalo Speedway. I see the famous Phoenix Tower located right there. Phoenix Tower has an address of 3200 Southwest Freeway. I found company stationary on Ebay. Looking for info!
