  1. A sign is up for "Reel Seafood & Bar" at the spot that was previously Tea & Victory. The sign mentions @reelseafoodhtx, which is associated with a seafood restaurant in Missouri City, which has a logo that matches the one on the sign. https://www.facebook.com/ReelSeafoodHtx/ https://www.reelseafoodwings.com/
  2. John Avil (El Burro & the Bull Restaurant Group) and Monica Pope (Beavers, T'Afia) are partnering on the Telegram Tea Room at 2601 Baylor. (via Culturemap) "Two veteran restaurateurs are bringing a new neighborhood cafe to The Heights that will serve as a new home for one of Houston’s most venerable chefs. Veronica and John Avila will open the Telegram Tea Room later this year in partnership with Monica Pope. Similar to Henderson & Kane, the Avilas’ modern general store in the Old Sixth Ward, the Telegram Tea Room will serve locally roasted coffee by Little Dreamer Coffee and pastries by Somos Semillas in the morning with a light lunch menu and a selection of retail products such as milk, eggs, beer, and wine. Where the Telegram Tea Room will set itself apart is a dinner menu by Pope, the chef who led bringing the farm to table movement to Houston."
  3. Apparently this project is still going forward and they have a listed tenant that recently was previously just around the corner: Mellow Mushroom listed as tenant at 726 W18th
  4. Mellow Mushroom on Shepherd is locked out for failing to pay rent. That's a nice space and hopefully something else will fill it soon.
  5. A new chicken restaurant out of California: Daddy's Chicken Shack: California chicken sandwich restaurant flies into Houston for flagship Texas outpost
  6. I thought Moon Rabbit was going into the old Vietnam space. I thought I read somewhere that this was going to be a restaurant called Peony and Crane. https://www.bizapedia.com/tx/peony-and-crane-llc.html Edited to add that I read that here, just a few posts up.
  7. Austin's Loro from Aaron Franklin (Franklin's BBQ) and Tyson Cole (Uchi) If this is accurate, it will be a welcome and highly anticipated addition to the Heights.
  8. And now Canard will close on 12/31: http://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/12-21-16-canard-closes-december-31-foreign-correspndents-treadsack-heights/
  9. Two new spots coming to 19th Street: 1) Indian Restaurant in the new building next to the Ka/Hugs&Donuts/Fat Cat strip center: http://theheightslifehouston.blogspot.com/2016/09/the-post-youve-all-been-waiting-for.html https://tarkaindiankitchen.com/ 2) Bar in the old La Pachanga location at 1235 W 19th. They have already started on the remodel of the old bar. http://www.mcintyreshouston.com/
  10. A quick google search on Skinny Rita's Grille found that it is a new concept from the group behind Ruggles Green.
  11. New bar/restaurant by the Downhouse team to take over block on N. Shep. between 18th and 19th. http://blog.chron.com/29-95/2013/08/cusack-knight-mason-announce-hunky-dory-plans/
  12. I noticed a TABC Application Notice on a recently closed used car lot at Shepherd and 15th St. Not that I care, but I thought this area was within the "dry" boundary. The name is "Heights Beer Garden." Its the orange building on the southwest corner, across from the Tortilla factory. Incidentally, I've noticed a number of the used car lots up and down Durham and Shepherd have closed recently.
