February 25, 2024, 8:00 am - 11:00 am Onion Creek Coffee House, Bar and Lounge 3106 White Oak Dr, Houston, Texas, 77007 Love is in the air, especially in February, and best experienced from the seat of your bike! We’ll start in the “lovely” Heights and cruise the bayous we love, check out some of the new bike trails you’ll come to love, and just generally have an endearing ride with friends in the bayou city. No bike, no worries (but you MUST have a helmet to join the ride), pick up a bike from a B-Cycle kiosk around town. Check their map and info here: http://houston.bcycle.com. Meeting time: Meet at 8 AM and leave at 8:30 to 11:30 AM. Meeting location: Onion Creek Cafe – 3106 White Oak Dr, Houston, TX 77007. Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/V3dDfgWsBa8VSHZ67 Parking: Parking lot and street parking. How to find the Group: Look for the Bikers and the BCO Sign. What to Bring: -Helmet -Water/sports drink* -Tools & spare inner tube in case of a flat tire. -Sunscreen * How much water/sports drink you need depends on various factors: how hydrated you are before the ride, the temperature; & how strenuous the ride is for you. Most of us bring along at least two 21-ounce water bottles. Fees: This is a free event. Bring some money for a cafe or some food and drink before or after our Bike Ride. About Bayou City Outdoors: Bayou City Outdoors is the largest activity & social club in Texas! With over 700 active members, we are a diverse, friendly, fun, and adventurous group of people. Hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, social dinners, happy hours, wine tastings, and so much more! While the majority of events are held in the Houston area, we also do quite a bit of traveling. This is not a dating club. All of our events are group-oriented, providing a safe as well as a fun way of participating in many activities and meeting lots of new people. Our events reflect a wide range of interests, giving members the opportunity to share adventures with positive, lively people like themselves in a safe, structured environment. Additionally, many of these events are planned with the beginner in mind, so you’ll have many opportunities to try a broad range of new activities. All events are either free, subject to group discounts, or are at cost. Total Mileage: quick-paced, ~5 miles Level of Difficulty: All levels, but you should be able to walk about 25-minute miles. We don’t leave anyone behind. What to bring: - Water - Long pants - Sun & bug protection - Sturdy Shoes - Snacks After Hike: - Lunch for a picnic in the park afterward - Camping chair to relax - Comfy shoes to change into Dog-friendly for good dog owners – must bring water and poop bags for your dog. No kids, please. This is an adult social club. Fees: There is a $3 entrance fee per person (your state park pass does not work at this park, but you can get an annual pass for $25). The entrance fee is paid at the park when you arrive. NOTE: Please allow 10 minutes extra to get through the front gate & drive to the parking lot since it’s at the back of the park. How to find the group: There are 3 parking lots near the Nature Center. We filled all 3 last time, so arrive early. Look for the Bayou City Outdoors sign at the entrance of the parking lot, and that’s where we’re meeting up. We’ll start the hike from there. Parking: There is plenty of parking near the start location. The parking lot is at the back of the park, so please allow extra time to drive there and arrive on time for the hike. Start Time: Arrive by 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. sharp start time. Allow 10 minutes to get to the meetup location from the park entrance. About the Park: “Lake Houston Wilderness Park encompasses 4,786.6 acres of wooded parkland, approximately 30 minutes north of downtown Houston off of Highway 59 near the town of New Caney. It is the only park in the H.P.A.R.D. system where overnight camping is available. A vehicle bridge over Peach Creek has opened the entire park to access by automobile. The park is a wilderness park and is heavily forested, so visitors need to be aware that wildlife in the park includes several species of snakes. Please remember that conditions on natural waterways change without warning, so keep safety in mind as you paddle the creeks.” by Lake Houston Wilderness Park. 3. Dinner after Full Moon Hike February 24, 2024, 8:15 pm - 9:30 pm Canyon Creek Cafe 6603 Westcott St, Houston, 77007 Let’s face it. When you go on a hike, and you don’t really know anyone, you tend to just talk to the person who’s walking next to you. And while we try to mix things up on the hike, there’s no better way to get to know people than over a little food and drinks! 😀 Whether you hike with us or not, meet up for some dinner and drinks. How to find the group: Look for the HTXO Sign and the group of sweaty people who look like they just hiked! 😀 NOTE: Our hike is done at about 8 pm at Memorial Park, so if you arrive before us, please grab a table outside. Parking: There is a small parking lot and street parking. Watch for not to park signs near the residential houses, and do not leave anything visible in your car. RSVP at https://htxoutdoors.com/events/dinner-after-full-moon-hike-5/ For additional info e-mail info@htxoutdoors.com
  4. Full Moon Hike February 24, 2024, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Rally Pavilion at the Running Center QH83+3P Washington Avenue Coalition / Memorial Park Houston, Texas, 77007 Prepare for Moonlit Magic! When the full moon graces the night sky, an enchanting transformation can occur. While we can assure you that no one has turned into a werewolf or Count Dracula during our full moon hikes at HTXO (so far), we are firm believers in celebrating the ethereal beauty of this celestial event with a leisurely moonlit walk. Join us for an enchanting journey under the full moon’s radiant glow and immerse yourself in the captivating lunar landscape. It’s a night of celestial wonder that you won’t want to miss. About the Trail: We are hiking on an actual trail with hills! Yes, right here in Houston! This is not a paved path, which makes it interesting when you hike back at night, in the dark! We’ll hike about 3-4 miles. What to bring: - Red Light Headlight / Red Light flashlight – You can get these really cheap at Walmart or Academy, so please pick one up! Using a red light will help you keep your night vision; it won’t scare off the animals as much, and you won’t get as many shadows. - Water: Stay hydrated before and after the hike. Bring water for the hike. It’s more comfortable to have a backpack to carry it in than to carry it with your hand. - Sturdy Shoes: These are actual dirt trails, and it’s night: no platforms, no slippers or flip flops. We will check shoes before the hike, and inappropriate shoes will need to stay back. No Dogs: Most of our events are dog-friendly. Since this is nighttime and there are snakes, there are no dogs on this hike. Adults only, no Kids: We are an adult social club, and our night hike is not suitable for kids. Leave No Trace Please throw away any bottles or trash you have. Bring a shopping bag and pick up some trash during the hike. Where to Meet: We meet at Rally Pavilion at the Running Center. Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TohzVhGDtjYcrEYx5 Parking: Parking is directly next to the Rally Pavilion, with a $2.00 parking fee. Fees: The hike is free, but there is a $2 parking fee. RSVP at https://htxoutdoors.com/events/full-moon-hike-21/ For additional info e-mail info@htxoutdoors.com
