Two buildings this tall is very exciting, this is like the Hudson Yards of Houston.- 1,569 replies

I applied to be a crane operator for this building, but they wouldn't hire me because I'm afraid of heights...talk about picky.

Aww man, this one was one of my favorites. But a billion $ is kind of a lot of money so understandable. I just hope it doesn't get put on the back burner for too long.

Regent Square: Mixed-Use On Allen Parkway At Dunlavy St.
art vandelay replied to Travel_n_Transport's topic in Going Up!
With all the new mid-rises going up in mid-town kind of reminds me of Manhattans mid-town. Of course much less dense at this point, but i think we're going to see more and more of these types of projects go up between downtown and uptown/galleria in the next few decades. As the land prices continue to rocket in this area, well see fewer single family homes (with the exception of River Oaks) as well as fewer single story businesses and shopping centers. It's crazy to think that just a little over a century ago, this was all farmland with a little dirt road called Westheimer.- 1,531 replies

Now if we could just get a rail line to connect downtown with one of the airports, would be a huge boost for hosting events.

I wonder which is taller right now, market square or 609? From the north/west angle in the photo it looks like they're about even.

Driving in from 45 north this beauty is really starting to stand out, along with market square, and its only 2/3 done.

Remember also that the NYC skyline is rapidly changing as well. So maybe in 50 years Houston might resemble Manhattan as it is today, but even that might be a stretch. It really comes down to bridging the old midtown gap in the areas you listed, but as we all know there are some very old and extremely wealthy neighborhoods there that fight tooth and nail anytime a high rise goes up anywhere near them. It'll be interesting to see if greenway continues to expand along 59. Also depends on how many businesses continue to move to the Energy Corridor, Memorial city, and westchase. As the property values skyrocket in these areas, I think more businesses will stay in the city.
