  3. lol well hopefully that is not the case..I have no idea and not in the know whatsoever, but it seems almost impossible to believe for any number of reasons (incl $).. ..and if Campo made this statement it seems it would have been reported by someone here or elsewhere in media previously being that Camden is a public company...but we'll see lol
  4. A friend just forwarded me a note that an update on this/Superblock will be provided at the Midtown Redevelopment Authority meeting tomorrow (Thursday) starting at 12:30pm. It is open to the public. I cannot attend - if anyone goes, please update if possible. Thanks.
  5. Another article about the restaurant/bakery/cafe/bar going in the neighborhood - http://blog.chron.co...asures-project/

  7. Saw this yesterday fyi - http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/ranch/news/transportation-commissioners-approve-roadway-improvements-in-greater-houston-area/article_cc9ecc8d-7d0e-54bf-9349-767728808ad1.html TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONERS APPROVE ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS IN GREATER HOUSTON AREA Roadway improvements, enhancement projects and a bridge replacement were among the construction projects recently approved at last month’s Texas Transportation Commission meeting. ….. Additionally, a joint project with the Midtown Management District to reconstruct Caroline Street from Holman to Pierce Street in the midtown section of Houston was awarded. The pavement on the existing street is in poor condition, and the project will reconstruct the entire street replacing the old pavement with new concrete pavement. The project will also provide new amenities such as wider sidewalks, landscaping, upgraded drainage, decorative lighting and a “rain garden” filtration system.
  8. Agree ...and glad we are in a boom.... I'm new to area and was have been trying to get some sense of when this Superblock may actually start ...it seems based on what I continue to see and hear (ie, my 2 posts above) that it is now actually starting in the next couple of months... good news for Midtown
  9. I guess this Hou Chronicle article is another reference to the Superblock getting started this year (?) ...and if so, "fall" is soon... In Building Boom, Construction Workers Gain The Upper Hand By Nancy Sarnoff August 22, 2014 | Updated: August 22, 2014 5:39pm On a conference call earlier this month, the president of Houston-based developer Camden Property Trust described what it's like building apartments in markets where construction is booming and skilled workers are in short supply. "It's a catfight to get subcontractors to fully staff at your jobs," said D. Keith Oden. He added, "It's hand-to-hand combat." The labor shortage has become so severe that the company recently started putting guards on job sites to keep its workers from being poached by competitors willing to pay more. "We've had specific instances where people would come on site and try to round up workers," Camden's chief executive Ric Campo said in an interview. "During the World Cup, we actually put big screens on our sites to get people to stay." Camden, which builds luxury apartments across the country, has staffed security guards at construction sites in Austin and Denver. When it starts a project here in Midtown this fall, the company plans to have onsite protection, as well.
  10. Any new developments here? As I understand: --Camden has said in connection with a prior earnings call that it’s a go and it will be started by end of this year 2014 --the Midtown Redevelopment Authority is saying it will be completed by end 2016 in communications to possible restaurant tenants in the Park --and out of curiosity I called the Midtown Mgmt District – they say it is a definite go and will be totally completed by end 2016/before Super Bowl. Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything different, or that confirms these timeframes.
  11. I posted this on another thread, but I think it may belong here since alot of the posts above are from some years ago (apologies, new to this posting thing). Link below is a month or so old, but that restaurant/bakery/bar (and the team behind it), the MetDance Studio in same location, together with coming Superblock (and all development it will likely spur), Midtown Arts Theater, and Caroline street reconstruction, and recent makeovers of Baldwin and Grover Parks, would hopefully mean positive things going forward now in next few years in Midtown in that neighborhood immediately to the east of Main (north of Elgin, south of McGowen or so)...To subject matter of this thread, it would seem alot of these concerns mentioned above will likely go away. Agree? Disagree? http://houston.cultu...a-neighborhood/ (and also as has been mentioned here, only mins driving from downtown, med ctr, museums ....and walkable to all of those things I first listed above …)
  12. Accidentally posted here - can't figure out how to delete it entirely (thus this message now), apologies
  13. Asking as a new transplant - seems to me all things I noted (new restaurant/bakery/bar, renovated Baldwin and Grover Parks, Superblock, reconstucted walkable Caroline St, etc) will be located in or walkable from this EAST Midtown neighborhood (EAST of Main St, not west as I say above which west side has already seen a good deal of development and property cost increase it seems ...and north of Elgin and south of McGowen or so), and also walkable to the new Midtown Arts Theater coming, and to the McGowen rail stop, and only mins driving from downtown, med ctr, museums ....from my viewpoint, it seems a lot of good things, would be great if it continues to develop, seems all very positive for future of that east midtown neighborhood ....
