I've been in the area for about 4 years now. I originally grew up in the Heights and moved to the Northside as we've had family in the area for a few generations. I wasn't really feeling connected to any of the new residents in the Heights. I leased my house and made the jump across 45 to join childhood friends and family. Most of my family that previously lived in the Heights lives here now as well, as most were slowly pushed out over the last 10 years. It still blows me away when people act like Northside is newly discovered or an "up and coming" area. It's pretty much always been here, and has always had a really tight knit community. I know it's likely going to way of the Heights, and it's a tough pill to swallow. But I'll be the first to admit I'm going to miss "Sabor del Northside", the Christmas Slab parade on Fulton, Day of the Dead altars on Paschal street, the mini pop ups at Houston Warehouse Studios, and the carne asadas every Sunday. North Main is in need of a face lift it's true, and while I do hope to continue to see some change, I hope it doesn't come in the way of overpriced and "trendy" bungalows like Refuge builds. Living across the street from one of their recent remodels has been a bit of a pain. The developers really could care less about the neighborhood, but I can't really judge them for it. It's just capitalism at is finest. But until it all comes down, you can find me on my front porch swing politely waving at the new Columbus' and crew driving through in their fancy Teslas and germans discovering the neighborhood.4 points

This sounds really great! i think that I will book a room there one night after they open. I like furniture that floats. Of course, this being Houston, they may have chosen other words.4 points

400 rooms, W Hotel rep in attendance. I’d guess with the smaller footprint may even be taller than the Marquis. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/amp/Marriott-s-W-Hotel-may-be-coming-to-downtown-12614853.php2 points

exactly what a bot would say! this is huge news though, picking downtown instead of uptown? certainly 15 years ago, you would hope that a sentence like that would one day be uttered, but to actually see someone say they picked downtown over uptown? huge.2 points

Atlanta has more than one location, so Houston may end up eventually with a Uptown area location.2 points

Does anyone have predictions on this area? I recently visited this area and I thought the Fulton North area would be amazing for retail and living. The rail line was appealing. Perfect area for retail on lower and 4 or 5 stories of living. I meant the area is definitely raw but i feel like it could be very hip soon. And thoughts?2 points

I think the original renderings showed it going on top of the Houston First building.1 point

While you are certainly correct that this is not W Hotels/Marriott selecting DT (W Hotels/Marriott are not very often in the business of selecting particular sites; they just approve/disapprove sites proposed by licensees), I don't think we have any reason to think it is "nothing more than Houston First trying to get a W franchise" (and the information we have suggests that is not accurate... it appears that Texas Hospitality Partners would be the franchisee/licensee and perhaps owner of the hotel). I don't think we have any reason to think Houston First is seeking to be the franchisee or operator of the W Hotel. Further, Houston First does not own either the hotel or the franchise for the Marriott Marquis.1 point

Wow that's a big city type of design, beautiful concepts. Has anyone heard and updates on the suit store that's supposed to open up in the building?1 point

Actually, that is what I have been thinking (or hoping at least). The plan is to build a bike trail along Little White Oak Bayou behind WOMH and the Raven Tower, among other improvements such as lighting, and I think the only way they're going to be able to connect that to the White Oak Bayou trail is by having the I-45 bridge at least rebuilt to allow a bike trail to go underneath it.1 point

What's crazy is that for a long time the design was to have a green roof but for it not to be accessible to anyone but maintenance people. This is at least a 2-3 million dollar amenity that they are adding, I am curious if BOA is chipping in or if this is what they needed to include to get BOA signed as a tenant. Regardless, this going to be one hell of a feature and will likely have one of the best downtown views.1 point

These two cranes came from the Latitude Hotel Apartment project in the TMC on S. Main, the east crane was the one on Main St and the west crane going up this weekend was the crane on Travis St that was taken down a couple weeks ago, this according to a Heede rigger. I asked about the crane at the Hanover River Oaks since it's a Heede base and he said they would be putting it up in a couple weeks.1 point

Turns out the two tower cranes on this site were both taken to the Caydon site in Midtown according to a Heede tower crane rigger putting up the crane there.1 point
