I was just about to say the exact same thing! Compared to the building to the right which is in the 30-something story range, it doesn't look much taller than that. Sort of disappointing for such a sexy building.

With the rental market being what it is (and possible being a seller's market for some time), why not make this another residential tower?

Is this seriously going to get built?

Looking at Urb's last post, imagining something back on the Chronicle block along with this tower and then adding Skanska/Capitol tower in to the picture, you have a lot of density blending right into the Market Square neighborhood.

I never realized that the protrusion/set back on the side wrapped around the back portion of the tower.

What about the lot at Braeswood and Fannin? It's been vacant forever.

Is that a swimming pool atop the parking garage roof deck in that rendering? Or just a weird fountain?

Really wish the Shamrock and the Prudential were in this pic but the parking lot and the field that replaced them are pretty nice too.

To borrow a term from my youth... That garden is "bad to the bone!"

I just did my semi-random web search for information related to this development, and found this notice in the agenda for the Commissioner's Court, for a meeting that happened last night (October 11): "To consider matters relating to the case of Harris County v. CR V Hardy Yards, LP, and upon completion thereof to take further action as appropriate, including possible settlement." I can't find any reference to this case otherwise. All I can tell is it's the same company name under which the MSD was obtained, but the MSD doesn't involve Harris County. Anyone know what agreements were between those two entities that might result in a lawsuit?

Rice has long fretted about their ability to attract the best and brightest out-of-state students to Houston. I imagine this project will be designed with an eye towards enhancing the image and appeal of the area. The visibility is incredible, as once the freeway comes down, views of these three blocks will be unimpeded from a wide area. This is really Rice's chance to shape its own landscape, as this area will be seen by visitors going in and out. I can imagine at least one residential tower along with a substantial midrise or two, small shop retail on Main and Wheeler, maybe an urban concept Target on the ground floor of one of the buildings, maybe an entry for H-E-B into the Midtown neighborhood on a ground floor to compete with Whole Foods on Elgin. The question is timing. Will they wait until the freeway comes down to maximize potential? The apartments across Main St. next to the freeway are going to deter investors in any retail project - will they try to do something about those first?

I believe the roof gardens at 609 Main and BG Group PLace are comparably accessible and usable.

From Saturday..would be nice to see some red neon highlights on the edges. Hard to tell, but the UH logo is lighted.
