  2. I just got back from vacation and I'm too lazy to edit the video I shot of this site. You can see a quick peek at the end of this video: or, here's a screenshot from the other video:

  4. Flyover from today. They've planted some of the fake forest and started on the fake waterway. There were people onsite working at 6PM, so if they keep this pace I'm pretty sure the majority of it will be ready for Superbowl week.

  5. The negativity here is really quite confusing. This site started as an un-leasable old crappy building. The developer was confident in the market and started construction without ANY LEASING. When the market started to retract they pulled back and finished just the garage. Now the market is turning, they might have an anchor tenant and they are going to wrap that pig of a garage with shinny glass and a tall office building. This project was NEVER about being a signature tall office tower. It is an INFILL project with 5 tunnel connections, a huge lobby that opens up the mole people to the sun and makes a once shitty block into something good. Is it a Hines caliber building? No, but it sure as hell beats the alternative....

  6. Not sure how tearing down an existed structure and replacing it with another is infill when downtown has dozens of entirely empty parcels. The Houston Club wasn't great, but it was an example of mid 1900s architecture which we lack in this town.

  13. So it looks like the city changed up the pedestrian crossing downtown to the detriment of pedestrians this week. Instead of crossing signals coinciding with green lights (with countdowns ending right before yellow lights), the signals switch to the countdown pretty instantaneously and then pedestrians get two red stop signs either direction for the majority of the green light. As a result, walking downtown is much slower and more confusing. I have seen a lot more jay walkers. I hope that the pedestrian death downtown last night was not related. Pretty stupid for a city trying to promote walkability.

  15. I walked by this today along McGowen and just realists how huge of a set back the apartment is on that side. That thing must be 50 ft. What are they going to do with that space? You can fit another park on that spot.

  18. I'd read that, but I'd guess that Canard was probably at least breaking even on its own, considering it only really occupied ~1500-1800 s.f. of the space. Add in another $8-10k per month in lease cost for the FC part of the space, plus the fact that the parent company has zero cash reserves, and there's no way Canard could stay open. That said, given how co-mingled the two spaces and operations were (they shared the same walk-in and prep area as well as bathrooms), it's not clear how well the parent company knew the true profitability of each concept. Additionally, it seemed like a lot of the customers in Canard were either coming from or heading to FC (or maybe a lot of the customers in FC were either coming from or heading to Canard). Ultimately I think a concept like Canard could be successful on its own, but we may never get a chance to find out.

  19. They removed most of the fence on the second floor today. I'm guessing that's the lobby.

  22. Even more disappointing is that it doesn't even live up to the revised renderings much less the original ones. I think 75% of my displeasure is with that tired ass beige color.

  25. Lots of work going on around the area today.. The lake was having what seemed to be pretty major problems though. But what the heck is going on here..? Looks like a bunch of asphalt was forced up from the bottom of the lake? A flat bottom boat pulled up in the reeds.. Water eventually started gushing out from the pile.. Obligatory Marriott Marquis shot..

  27. Wow. Whole Foods and HEB determined not to lose the edge in the hip urban grocery race. Bad for the overbuilt multi family market, good for armchair urbanists like us.
