Yesterday's drive home. Wait, whats that up there? Way up there, the final crown beam was being welded up. I'm surprised he could stay balanced with balls that big11 points

I know Hines is most likely going to turn this into a very nice development but having a surface lot is really going to hurt the feel of this area.3 points

Not sure If I should be happy because that means this building would probably be the first to get off the ground next cycle. But it also might mean they might just get cancelled and inducted into Houston's dead building hall of fame...2 points

"phase 1 of a larger development" sounds like the Skanska tower, and the Texaco building tower. A couple of examples of parking garages built to hold towers some day. Are there other examples from previous rounds of development?1 point

If we had not had such a wonderful first render of this hotel it would be seen in such a different light. I think it looks good imo.1 point

the "desperately needed parking"? perhaps the author hasn't seen the surface parking covering the entire west side of the campus. rice does many things right, but the west side of campus and deciding to erect a massive parking lot in this location are not one of them.1 point

I live right by it and the only thing I've seen is the city inspectors put a red stickers on their sign in front of the sales house right next door.1 point

it looks like the hotel wont even come off as nice as the renderings. I wonder how long that NRG lease is for? As long as NRG is there, its not going to be a retail hub. It takes up way to much prime space1 point

looks like they back on fixing up dallas, was just open to impress tourist This is still a good spot for potential retail, like a sephora or even a MAC or some smaller retail. I didnt realize but NRG does take up the first floor as well. It takes up way to much space in Greenstreet for it to ever be a retail hub, It has to be leasing out atleast a third of available space. Also for gods akes I hope they put some sort of advertisement or billboard next to the hotel in that ugly empty wall1 point

Heh, it's cool. We appreciate all the photo updates you've been providing. I finally got my first decent camera about 6 months ago, so I understand wanting to go test out a new lens.1 point

Threw down a deposit for this place. Move in June 1st when my unit is ready. Wow this place is so nice when I went on the tour. The gym is massive and the resident lounge areas are huge with a ton of tvs. They are still working on the sports lunge that overlooks Minute Maid Park at the top and I'm curious how much you can see when the roof is open. The leasing office said that 20+ residents have already moved in and many units that aren't complete yet (included mine) have already been reserved. Residents can also order room service from The Westin across the street and they'll deliver. A few pictures from the view I'll have.1 point

So. I know Lee Cook personally, and this week is his 90th (maybe) birthday. Here is the Phonoscope history - put together by Eleanor Whitty - who was instrumental in beginning the exhaustive task of pushing Mr. Cook into advertising the history of this amazing company - as his preference is to be WAY BELOW the radar. He still runs Phonoscope and has always been the CEO. They did sell off their cable subscribers in the 90's & 2000's - but never got rid of their main business - which is fiber optics to companies. They are now going into Fiber to the Home and have been approached by Google - Sarah Schlager is heading this up and is re-vamping their website which will be released in 2016. They are a phenomenal family owned company. Mr. Lee Cook philanthropically gives to Houston Technology Center to promote new ideas and businesses. He is also very involved in politics, having a channel (or 3) dedicated to unveiling government lies. I haven't worked for this company in 10 years - but my profound respect for this company will remain forever. Mr. Lee Cook was my mentor. He hires amazing talent and pushes people to do their best.1 point
