Saks Garage Retail At 625 Fannin St.

I walked by there today and they are building out the little retail space on the corner of Capitol and Fannin. The permits in the window just said "retail buildout", so no idea what's going in there, but it's good to see something long abandoned getting fixed up.

You know, I was a  little disappointed that they didn't reopen the tunnel that  connected this garage to the Texaco complex across the street.  Anyway, good to hear about the retail.

With retail in The Star/Texaco's new garage, 609 Main, and this, you have another corner/block DT that is back from the dead. Get someone in the spot that used to be Zula/The Capitol, and you're looking at a total turnaround.

I'm not sure what that tunnel was like. It had a single, standard sized door entrance down in the Texaco hole.  Would have been nice to extend the network over to the Magnolia and Hyatt Place (if that ever happens). A connection to that block from 609 Main under Fannin would have been cool too.

I think that was always a standalone tunnel section to connect the old Gibraltar Savings Building with the parking garage.  To your point though, given the Texaco redevelopment, 609 Main, and Magnolia Hotel, it would have seemed a no-brainer to extend that section.
