The US Census Bureau's state by state estimates for July 1, 2015 will be out by the end of next month, with the metro-level estimates coming in March. I think Dallas proper can catch up to SA and take 2nd place again. I don't think so San Antonio for 2013 is 1,409,019 and Dallas is 1,257,676. Dallas is hemmed in and SA is annexation north. Northwestern Harris county if it was a city it has a population of 1.5 million. Houston annexes the business for tax money. But Houston does not have the capability to annex the households not yet. Chicago is only 234sqmiles yet its population is large(though Houston could take its place but that's another topic) Dallas' proper density is increasing a lot right now and I think it's going to be very close with SA next census time. Population rankings aren't that important to me though. If Dallas became the 10th largest city in Texas that would be great. Driving would be a breeze. I remember Dallas proper was suppose to have fast growth last decade, but ended up only growing by 0.8 percent (iirc) when the actuals came out.The density increase in Dallas proper is happening but that doesn't mean it is growing faster than SA. It's density just increases faster due to the smaller size.I highly doubt it will pass SA. That city is growing both ways, with room for even more suburban development inside.
